Unions have gone from necessary to extremely corrupt over the last several decades. In areas like autoworkers and teachers unions, they have indeed become extremely corrupt and consistently do more damage than good. They need to go away. That being said, at the time Randy (and MANY others) where trying to put together a fighters union, there was indeed a need. The UFC was NOT paying fighters what they were worth. At that time, 80% of the undercard fighters were still working full time jobs. When you put your body on the line the way these fighters do, you should be able to focus on your craft full time, with no distractions. Things have changed for the better in the UFC, largely because of fighters like Randy who were able to pressure the UFC in way that made things better for ALL the fighters.

I got to meet Randy at the Denver Airport last year. First time I've ever been star struck. They say "never meet your heroes". I disagree. He was so nice it was ridiculous. He let me get a picture with him and I got to shake his hand. Seemed very down to earth.
