The first written reference to the existence of Laredo (Spain) dates back to the year 968, when its existence is indicated in the year 757 as a fishing village, as cited in the work Antiquities of Spain, by Abbot Francisco de Berganza. Laredo (USA) was founded on August 25, 1755 under the name Villa de San Agustín de Laredo, in what was then a New Spain province of Nuevo Santander, by Captain Don Tomás Sánchez de la Barrera, who by orders of Governor José de Escandón, established this town to colonize the arid and remote territories of northern New Spain. Villa de San Agustín de Laredo was named in honor of Laredo, Cantabria, Spain and in honor of Saint Augustine of Hippo.

Lourdes es maravilloso, no me extraña que la Santísima Virgen se apareciéra en este precioso pueblo; de hecho su presencia es real, todavía hoy; tuvo un gusto exquisito. Como la realización de este video, está hecho con mucha delicadeza. Muchísimas gracias!!

I was just reading about Fontainebleau Forest today in an essay from around 1880 or 82 or so by none other than Robert Louis Stevenson. Of course, I'd heard of the woodland & recently learned of RLS' familiarity with it, but I knew nothing about the forest itself---that's why I was so pleased to find his essay on it, coming across it totally by chance! I've read many of his travel pieces & I always enjoy them. This one is no exception! His wonderful, evocative descriptions truly brought the forest & small towns alive, along with the artists' colony of that day. For those fascinated by Fontainebleau this essay is a must!

Wow what a wonderful thought. I will definitely check it out. There’s so much history around us, we just have to keep on reading, learning and sharing those stories with others so that the history remains alive for decades to come.
