Great video. I like Toneriders and Lollars and use both (Tonerider vintage plus set in a tele and a Lollar 50's wind dogear in a Junior double-cut). The lollars are a great match for a completely hollow thinline guitar. Both great pickup manufacturers. Thank you.

Thanks for the comment...I'm sure you are right since it's the Japanese Catalog. The guitar was however made in Taiwan. I went ahead and translated the Japanese writing on the 311MS catalog photo in case anyone is interested in reading it The 311MS inherits the sound concept and design proposed by Mike Stern Model 1511MS. A single-cutaway Pacifica with authentic bolt-on guitar construction and hardware for modern playing styles. A beautiful maple neck set with a real wood/alder body covered in ash. Achieves rich sound and clear sustain. Furthermore, the pickup also follows the style of the 1511MS, with a combination of high quality alnico humbuckers at the front and single size humbuckers at the rear. The high specs hidden in the simple form make it flexible enough to cover a variety of playing styles, from rock to sharp chord cutting to fat jazz tones. Sound makeup is possible. This is a fantastic channel Don. Always love your selection of instruments to showcase. If you get a chance to grab hold of any of Eastman's guitars you wont be disppointed. I've been using their 335-a-like (T386) and DC Junior-a-like (SB55 dc/v) for about four years and they are astonishing guitars. I just put some locking tuners on the T386, the only weak part of this model.

Just had a set of these installed in a Michael Kelly Patriot (LP Style), and wow, they sound incredible! And in the past year, I've upgraded a number of guitars, mostly with Seymour Duncan (JB/Jazz, Sat. Night Specials, Pearly Gates, Seth Lovers, Psyclones), Bare Knuckle (Boot Camp Old Guard), and Mojotone (59 Clones, 56 Quite Coil P90's) pickups. These sound as good as any of them. Will definitely be ordering some more Tonerider products for future upgrades.

Want great tone for 2-400 bucks USD, these are the one. I always enjoyed a strat, clean channel cranked. No matter what the other band members were playing I poked through the mix and was heard clearly loud and proud. They would laugh at my little cheap combo amp at first. Until we started playing. My tone just took over. It was the main focus. Because it had cut, and it had tone for days. But working on these old things, its not really worth it, unless thats just your amp you depend on for your sound.

Nice play through on this SLICK Telecaster. It sure is nice to find something so great for so cheap a price. My Tele is a few years old, Sunburst with a black guard (changed it to a tortoise guard), but it has all vintage appointments. The triple brass saddles really make it happen. I use the ash tray cover, as Joe B explains it does add a nice touch to the tone. Plus wedging the slider switch between clicks is possible. I paid 1500 for this guitar from Sweetwater with no case. They were gracious enough to include a nice Fender gig bag with a metal guitar pick zipper tab. The 2-tone sunburst is really nice and reflects its early predecessors. This guitar is an OKAY player. I really don't think it was worth the price.

I bought the mocha one… put on some compensated brass saddles, swapped the pickups for 51 Nocasters, put in a pure tone jack with electro socket jack mount, and wired up a push pull for switching between series/parallel. It’s got great grunt, but also clarity. Plays super well now that I’ve done a setup and get it dialed in. The only disappointment is that I have a semi-dead fret on the high E string that doesn’t ring cleanly like all the other frets, but other than that, this guitar is rules. I have the action set a 4/64th per Fender’s recommendations and it helps the whole guitar vibrate and feel alive (which I look for in a guitar), but I wonder if it’s possible to keep that same resonance while lowering the action just a hair (if I do that now, the low E and A string buzz a bit… maybe shim the neck?
@Bluesgtar
@Bluesgtar Ай бұрын
Hey Jason thanks for watching..Nice choices for upgrades. Is it possible you could have a high fret somewhere causing the high E string problem? I've been using a neck check gauge for setting my string height for years now. It sits on the neck itself at the 17th fret and I can set each string to the exact same height. Its always tricky with the brass saddle bridges but if I can't get the same height from the first fret to the last and the neck is straight then it usually needs a shim.. Usually a .25 is enough to make it perfect.... Usually lol.

What an awesome time for people to learn to play the guitar. Don't take much money to have a brilliant guitar these days. I have a Jet jt 400 telecaster in lake placid blue £189. Looks absolutely amazing, fit finish and playability is flawless due to their amazing effort they put into their necks. It has a set of tonerider alnico 2 blues in it £65. I upgraded the electronics and switch cts pots, prague cap, treble bleed oak switch £50 and bought a set of Vanson locking tuners £35. Total cost £339. I now have a guitar with a bone nut, locking tuners, rolled fingerboard edges, roasted maple neck, perfect frets, premium wiring and amazing pickups that sound as good as any boutique builders. Going to do the same with a Js 400(strat). It will come in at 359. Two amazing guitars for the price of a player series and are head and shoulders above the player series. Hi and thanks for watching... There are so many choices it's a bit overwhelming. As far as all the bargain brand guitars are concerned there's only a couple that I would recommend. One would be Slick brand guitars from Guitarfetish online. The Xaviere guitars are also pretty good as well as the older Dillion guitars. If you are willing to buy a used guitar the options are endless. Lots of great deals on used Fender, Epiphone, and multiple other well known brands. 40th Anniversary Squires are under $300 used now as well. If you have access to Guitar Center online check out the used section. I check it everyday and night. The great thing is they only charge about $25 to ship in the US and you have 45 days to decide if you like the guitar. That's worth a lot considering.... Let me know if there's a particular guitar that you'd like me to review... Thanks/ Don G

I am probably going to get a Classic 50 pretty soon. I think these Peaveys are a great, great value. Super is out of my reach or I would have another one I like your channel, subbed!

Hey Roger. Thanks for watching! I’m also a Peavey fan. Gigged with one for years back in the 90s. I also had a Super that I wish I hadn’t sold. Oh well lol. The old Carvin Vintage series amps are also great and underrated. I checked out your channel and will subscribe. I like your playing style and tone. Very cool. Take Care

There just isn’t enough respect out there, for the classic 30. It is truly a great sounding amplifier. Clean or drive channels are always inspiring.😎✌️

@@BluesgtarI like that you let the treble and bite shine through. Way too many demos of these guitars (and any guitar for that matter) have the tone rolled off into the mud. Love it. 👍🏻

I have the Lollar 50's P90s in my Epiphone Casino, its a 2015 model which used to have rosewood, nowadays they have indian laurer or pau ferro. i use it in unconventional ways on my channel. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Greg. Thanks for watching. I’m a lollar fan as well. Having said that I’ve become a big fan of Tonerider pickups as well. I have a few reviews on my channel but haven’t tried the P90s. I have a new set of their P90s sitting on my bench waiting to be installed. I’m looking for a used semi hollow so I can compare them to the Lollars in my friend’s Casino.

Jon Maghini makes very, very amazing instruments. He is brilliant, fussy, and exacting in his craft. Every once in a while, a genius steps out from the shadows to blow everyone's minds... Jon is that guy.
