He needed to improve his breathing technique because he breathes too heavily into the mic. Singers learn breath control and how to NOT breath so heavily into the mic. Other than that he's a fantastic singer.

As someone who (at the time this aired) hadn’t heard the original, I thought this was so good! I feel like there was that biased people get because they knew the song and probably heard it a bunch. I was also a fan and not a fan of country, but I remember loving (still do) this mysterious/sexy version of ring of fire

When I first heard this on the American Idol I was blown away. Adam Lambert was the most original singer I had ever heard. It was so unassuming for the people from the US to hear. They had to hear a singer without pretense.

What are you talking about? This was in 2009's AIS8, a singing competition. Adam Lambert is not Paul Stanley and Paul definitely is not Adam. Paul Stanley did not front QUEEN either.

Without a doubt, Adam is my favorite competitor ever to have been on the show. He's unquestionably among the most talented and oh so unique, and I've seen Queen + Adam Lambert four times. I hated this.

The absolute WORST finale song ever written but Adam did the best he could with such a piece of turd. I feel there was also dissonance with the backup singers, maybe? Definitely some flat notes somewhere, but it wasn't him.
