Great singers all. But Emmylou does sound the best. Love them all.

I am one-half a Southerner. My great-grandmother was a Jewish immigrant to Maryland in the 1880s. She buried four children from two marriages. Two of her sons were murdered by her insane first husband. Yet in her old age she smiled at the camera when she held my mother in her arms. Hard Times Come Again No More.

I like to think that Foster was channeling the slaves who suffered, but from what I've read, I m afraid he wasn't.

I was born and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. in the 1950's and 60's., also Stephen Fosters hometown. My grade school music teacher, Miss Frank, loved Stephen Foster. She taught us about him and his too short life. She would play his songs on the piano and we would sing to them. Many of his songs are so sentimental and touching, like this one. He is one of my hero's.

Lovely, but isn't the original harmony on the word "weary" a diminished chord?

Going to France and working with Aznavour was the best thing she ever did for her career. He brought her out of her early awkward, forced deliveries and into her storytelling mode and - a star is born.

There real reason people have children, to force them into the band. At some point you can remove the tape from the cymbals and the screws from their feet and the unicycle. They pick things up eventually.
