Renting in Toronto was a nightmare for me. Landlords lie and if I’m paying rent I should be able to complain to the LTB. The rules of being covered for protection can be easily loopholed. One property had a rat infestation and cockroaches, landlord wouldn’t do anything about it but constantly harass me. Police got involved and told her to leave me alone while I try to find a new place in peace. The other had various insect infestations, and my things were being used and broken by the other filthy renters. Landlord told me place was clean and quiet. LIE! In both cases, the landlords and their children harassed me after making a complaint to them for months. All I did was complain and ask for my last month’s rent back so I can leave and find a new place. These cheap landlords are evil and should be held accountable. Decided to pay double and live in an airbnb for the remaining of my studies. All I wanted was to move out of my city for a while and live in Toronto, instead I lived a nightmare for two years. So please, if they pay rent (doesn’t matter the lease) they should file against the landlord!! These tenants who don’t pay rent …no need to for an LTB hearing! Police escort out of the property. Grab what you can and the rest say goodbye too. If landlord tries to call police to remove a paying tenant from property, they should be ticketed for a false claim. Let’s make things plain and simple. Jeez!
