This is a great performance made by a great artist, a performance with passion, fantasy, and honesty toward music. It’s a perfect example to learn from for younger generations. God bless your soul Maestro.

Incredible performance. The Bach & Couperin performances likewise. Recently bought this vinyl recording, but it has a different (earlier?) sleeve cover, also on the Philips label (Catalogue No. 9502 070). It was released in 1974, I first heard the recording around 1988. Met Heinz Holliger briefly in the interval of a concert a year or so later.

I am absolutely delighted to have found this video. I studied with Lee Munger at UT Austin from 1977-1979 before transferring to the Oberlin Conservatory. I also had the pleasure of knowing Marilyn when she was a student at the same time. Lee Munger's teaching continues with me to this day, well beyond the clarinet. He was a brilliant player (wish I still had his recording of the D'Indy Trio on Musical Heritage Society), one of the few who played with the French "double lip" embouchure, and infinitely kind. I often share the story when I commented to him that I liked the tie he was wearing, he glanced at it, looked up and said, "must've been a gift." Wonderful humor. I also often quote the adage credited to him that, "playing in an orchestra is as romantic as working in the post office." Of course, Mr. Munger played with the Boston Pops and in all my years, I simply never came across a finer person, player or pedagogue. Thank you making me smile and for this beautiful performance. Best always, - Richard Wolfson, Portsmouth, OH

Marilyn Munger here. Thank you so much for such a lovely tribute to my father! I will share it with him over Thanksgiving. The conversations you recall sound just like him! I am so thrilled to know that his legacy and influence live on through his students! I have an LP copy of the D'Indy that I could probably get transferred to an appropriate medium for you.
