Appreciate the video, and the good comments. Agree to not get trapped between sets in white water. I had that happen to me at Pistol River and i got smashed. Part of the learning curve! Great you didn't panic and got back!!!

From 16:22 I see a lack of experience in light wind in short boards. Very important longer lines and not so separated, it make feels the sail stiff, keep the sail far from you and lose to me able to play with gusts. Feet out of straps if necessary around the mast. And sure experience in waterstarts faster. Windsurf is for crazy people lol but I love it too.

Keyboard coaching: beware the break zone - marked by white water, swim up to tip of mast to pop the sail then shimmy down to boom - easier to duck dive waves and also clear the sail from water. Easier said than done I am sure as that looked like a tricky spot. Glad for the happy ending!

This is my favourite wave to sail. It's normally a lot bigger BTW - it can be like a huge wall. When it's really bad they shut the place down. The wave is always as far out as it is, like One Eye, you have to go to where it is. Lots of wing foilers on it nowadays when it's small. It's also generally lighter wind out there.
@moguzd2 жыл бұрын
Main mistake starts around 6:25; you should have gybed back there. When you are not on a wave and you are approaching white waters, that means you are approaching breaking point of normal waves and you are in between normal waves/sets, next waves will break break behind you if you continue. Keep in mind that these white waters are turbulent so harder to plane without wave pushing you, olso winds will be very light and turbulent at wave breaking area, so you will be a sitting duck. If you are not planing on a wave and approaching breaking point, keep looking behind you to see which wave you can catch (olso to check if that wave is occupied by other riders or not), if there is no wave to catch before breaking point then gybe off.

I'm late to the party I know, but in that situation I'd get to the tip of the mast (keeping it pointing at the wave face) and push down to the mast foot as the wave comes through to keep the board from flipping, then pull into wind (not up) to fly the rig. Of course if there is no wind then it is going to be tough anyway. Fair play for posting the disaster!

and pull the mast not the boom to waterstart! So much easier. And your harness lines are too far apart - should be a knuckle width max.

Ah dude, I know this situation at the exact same position.... 3y ago i nearly drowned there. The weather changed and the waves were way to high to get out of there. I lost all my equipment and the currency pulled me out on the sea. I was lucky enough to get on a reef out there and grab a stone or some corrals. A cool kitsurf guy attached me to hes gear and pulled me back to the beach. The coast guard found all my stuff but it was completely fucked😅... Whatever we both had a good guardian angel! Keep fighting out there and have fun!🤙🏻🤟🏻
