Instead of attacking it, they decided to encircle it until the city ran out of supplies and bloodlessly surrenders. And it did. After 6 months, the Patriarch Sophronius called to meet up with Calif Omar. He handed the City to him. Calif Omar allowed Christians to remain in the city and called for Jewish diaspora to move back in Jerusalem, after they were massacred by the Romans and exiled.
