I think there's a flaw you're baking into this system. or at least the way I see it. the "average" production cigar is quite a good product, and I think is not halfway between a 0 experience and a 10 experience. what do you think about that?
@DevelopingPalates13 күн бұрын
Think of a bell curve. The highest quantity of something falls in the middle. That’s average. The flaw in the way you’re thinking is that you have not made the adjustment to current production. Your graph would no longer look like a bell. We have made the adjustment, and that is the reason why the majority of cigars we review land in the average category.
@purplegoat250013 күн бұрын
@@DevelopingPalates thanks for the response. if you had an industry that creates a worse product on average then, wouldn't the scale be out of sync across industries? for spirits vs. cigars vs. wine. like they say "the worst day fishing is better than the best day at the office" or however that saying goes. also, what if the industry changes significantly over time? a 6 today could be a 5 in some years. also, have you tried graphing your results to see how close you are to a bell curve?
@DevelopingPalates13 күн бұрын
@@purplegoat2500 Each industry has it's own average, so there's no way one industries product would effect the rating of another industries product. The scale we use can work for anything. You just have to be able to determine what average is once you have enough repetitions with the products. As things change, so does what's average. There's not a cigar in a glass case that everything is compared to to determine where it lands on the scale. It's an always moving entity of our continuous consumption and how we determine how the one we are reviewing compares to what we've been smoking previously.

Hi guys, thanks for all the great content. Would you ever consider making a 'special' episode where each of you discusses a couple of cigars which are in your regular rotation (cigars where you WOULD and ARE coming back to)? No top 10 or 25 lists but a handful of cigars which are always in your humidor - because you replace them, not because you never touch them😊 I hope if you ever make such an episode Jiun is back for that. I miss his cheeky humour!

I can't recall the last time a cigar was sub par to the group. Most cigars are average or above average. When we select cigars to review we're trying to provide a representative cross section of what's available on the market for that year. Thanks for checking it out!

I give Aaron credit. He’s not coming back for any foolishness whatsoever. Toddler aged daughter stumbles on a hike? I’ll drop goldfish crackers and good luck!Grandma’s mobility scooter gets stuck on a stocking ladder at Von’s? Hope it’s street legal and Ah Dee O’z! Wife says her headache cleared up and she’s wearing new négligée? Not tonight sweetheart. Another Miami playboy releases another sensationalized cigar? No thank you! Man absolutely sticks to his guns.

This cigar has a lot of hype and positive reviews floating around, particularly with the KZbin bros. I think it was better than most of the recent (bland) Warped offerings, and most of the other mundane offerings floating around now, but I definitely did not come away thinking this was a great cigar or a top pick. I'll give it some time and another try.

I first smoked the I.S. Origen in robusto 2 years ago in a 5 pack and loved it. Bought a box this year and have not had the same experience. First out of the box had a heavy ammonia taste that calmed down in the 2nd third. I called the seller who thought it was in need of more rest. I let them rest all year. Smoked one this week. Better but not the rich flavors from last year. They can age another year. I'll stick to my Don Carlos #2. I will say the Aganorsa rare leaf reserva in robusto did improve a lot with a year of aging.. my impression is they are letting these smokes out before they're ready.
@DevelopingPalatesАй бұрын
That does seem like the case for some releases that they just need to get it out the door rather than only releasing when it's ready.

This may be more of a testament to an outsized industry where even a $12 cigar from an operation that at least purports to be a luxury marca can produce a cigar at this price that only amounts to a decent (not bad) experience despite using tobacco and filler sourced from anywhere and everywhere in Latin America. It may even parallel the wine industry where players like Altria (P&M) bought up brands and vintners who produce value (dependable) juice bombs (jammy/vanilla infused wines) that the hoi polloi can find in any supermarket chain in America. The discerning consumer is going to have to actively seek out quality (and pay for it) or value/quality (most difficult) or be content paying $12 (just like the average wine, isn’t that funny) for a dependably barely acceptable Josh Zin. I fret one day Aaron may never come back
@DevelopingPalatesАй бұрын
It's a race to the bottom for all consumer products. The only time you need to show value and quality is in your quest to be acquired.
