Tennessee Walker. Huge front action (stretchies) and screwed up piaffe behind. Stretchies, stretchies, stretchies…. Brought to you by Ed Gal and other Dutch Harness Horse people. Head tied down, legs up up up in the front for amateur audiences.

@mantra-om224 жыл бұрын

Best Dressage stallion ever to have stood in the Netherlands, ever. A Trakehner bred in Germany by Marika Werner, by Kostolany out of elite mare Gondola II. Sadly six days after this video he died of a ruptured heart. Who knows if they had let him retire without all this hectic "show" and he travelled by air less in his life he might have lived longer. Gribaldi stamped the Dutch horses with his incredible easy character particularly, refinement and of course his colour.
@ladyj75176 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree with you. I heard many people say that the hectic lifestyle Gribaldi led and in particular this final show with all the lights and sounds (which is not natural) hastened his demise and probably put extra strain on his heart but who knows. We are all privileged to have been able to witness his majesty, beauty and talent.

Trakehner front leg action, very different from the carriage horse type gaits currently in vogue. Gribaldi floats, he doesn’t stomp.
@equestanton10173 жыл бұрын
@@millsixstudios The very heavy use of TB in warmblood breeding means they haven't "stomped" since about the late 1980s. A much rounder leg is in vogue, this you get with that cross, the TB being very stiff and straight in front, the carriage with more knee. Trakehner (TK) has been used in place of or due to the shortage of any decent TBs on occation in various warmblood stud books. The movement has traditionaly been stiff and straight infront just as the TB however since breeding focused more on performance in recent times this has changed somewhat. There was a time when 87% of all stallions used in TK breeding were in fact TBs. Gribaldi had this modern warmblood movement rather than the typical TK movement of a TB.
@millsixstudios3 жыл бұрын
@@equestanton1017 Gribaldi has 72.66% Trakehner blood and 27,34 % thoroughbred. He embodies the classical, floating Trakehner movement, rather than the stomping (“round” as you say) carriage front action of the Dutch Warmblood/Dutch Carriage Horse and the other carriage/coach-type warmbloods (Holsteins, Oldenburgs, Hanoverians). With Gribaldi, the Dutch breeders added an invaluable asset to their open stud book. A doubtless testimony to the continuing significance of the #Trakehner breed as world-class sport horses.
@equestanton10173 жыл бұрын
@@millsixstudios round movement or position of the front leg is not stomping, it's the desired dressage movement today. Edward Gal who rode Gribaldi unfortunately produced a very choppy tense stomping action from him but this was purely his training methods. Much greater softness and elastic swing is looked for now. The only stomping breeds are the PREs who have a very short stride and high knee action. There is an attempt at producing a modern sport horse version of PRE but it hasn't exactly materialised yet. Trakehners despite one or two notable modern stallions have a way to go in uniformity of good movement across the population as the stiff straight movement hasn't disappeared. They are a work in progress till they are as uniformly good as warmbloods. In general floating movement is not considered ideal as it's difficult to collect, rather a high degree of suspension and joint flexibility and elasticity is looked for. Carriage horses brought this in spades they were indispensable in producing top class modern sport horses, for dressage they gave the stunning big fronts and hind power and drive for jumping they gave power in the hinds too. TB and to a lesser extent Trk gave refinement and a more open stride, but you still need sufficient knee or the leg becomes straight again and that stilted straight peg leg in front of the TB is not desired. Somewhere inbetween. For my money the Trk doesn't have the breadth and depth of good genetics across the board that the warmblood has. Thats why they make good crosses with warmbloods to diversify the WB. The influence of Gribaldi in his day was important particularly for the Dutch WB but no more so than many other key stallions in the development of the Warmblood in the past.

Gribaldi and his progeny are not easy horses to ride. Before you criticise you should actually sit on one. My trainer has one and I have only sat on him in walk but it was very very different from any other horse I'd ever ridden. Edward Gal is the best!
@ladyj75176 жыл бұрын
Often, the best horses are not easy to ride. I have a son of Bretton Woods and I have never felt the sheer power of a horse like him before and that is just in walk! I never underestimate the skills required to ride talented horses as they all possess an extra something which always makes them special.

I think you are entirely correct. Looking at this horse and his concentration, I think you'd have to be so precise, secure, and small in your cues because this is exactly the type of horse that would WAY OVER-RESPOND. I thought that was beautifully ridden. That horse had huge concentration, and a pretty quiet tail... That says a lot.
