Man I love this interview series for all sorts or reasons. One of the first albums I owned back in the sixties... Why I had that album is a bit of a mystery but probably it was because I was looking for a Segovia album and ended with a Williams instead and it was spectacular.

Wait a minute Bonnie, I thought Sun House was a Piedmont player?

Don't know how the algorithm decided to hand me these interviews but this is a treat to have Armatrading chatting up knopfler. Thanks for the posting.

"I can see that your creator has run out ideas." Bert was not only a gifted guitarist, but also a gifted lyricist.

Fucking A! !! I heard about her show years ago, and finally get to hear it. Joan is a great host, putting Knopfler at ease.

Mr Knopfler is absolutely the best guitarist and musician, according to me. I have been listening to his masterpieces for forty years. Thanks god who gives us such a genius! ❤❤❤

" fragile techniques" of Bert? Funny choice of words because there is nothing fragile about Bert's technique or sound.

Exactly, he destroys the bass strings with his thumb pick, sounds like they are at the point of snapping before they slap back and smash the fretboard !!

OMG... thanks Jack for posting it !!! I have to take my hat offfffff for this guitarist, the Shouting Stage is one of my favorite albums of Joan Armatrading, and Mark's finger printed all over it so well, i love the way he plays ....

He only played on two tracks - the principal guitarist was Phil Palmer

Love this conversation and love their love for the Blues. but that last statement is of course not quite true.
@afrose715 жыл бұрын
What isn't true about it? Even Elvis acknowledged Rock's origins from the Blues. She wasn't referring to classical or jazz, just the popular genres that are on the radio today.

Obviously, one can't really know the total number of pro female guitarists at any one period, but besides Bonnie Raitt and Joan Armatrading in the early '70s, there was Ellen McIlwaine, whose playing was truly jaw-dropping.
