How do you get back to the carpark from Mangorei Road please? Cheers. Great video and we'll be doing that next Easter :)

I had my parents pick me up at the other end, but there is definitely a shuttle that either goes back to the North Egmont Carpark or to New Plymouth. I’m not too sure how this works but I met a lot of people that were catching it that day 😀 Thanks for watching and enjoy it - it’s a great walk!!

You really had fun with your drone and the footage ties in nicely with your earlier videos. The quality is great too - what drone are you using? Hope you have a good work/leisure balance in the US before you head back to NZ. I’m sure you must be tempted to see as much as you can before you head back home!
@onthetrailnzАй бұрын
I had a bit of fun making this one! It's all filmed on my DJI Mini 3 Pro in 4K 60 fps mode, which came out really well. It's definitely a good small drone to carry around that still takes really video. I'm still getting the balance sorted here in the US, but there's now only one week left until fall break, so I think I might so for a bit of a bike mission (maybe ride from here in New Jersey down to Washington DC or something and get the train back), which will be nice!

Thanks for the 3 part series Jared. I’ll be back in NZ December and although in February I did the much shorter loop River Road-Central Whirinaki-Mangamate (didn’t stay there - arrived too early)- River Road I’ll definitely do the longer loop as you did. I didn’t see another soul, neither in the huts nor on the tracks but it might be a bit busier in December? I was really excited to have great views of my first ever whio, near Central Whirinaki hut. Later several more further along the tracks. I can’t see why they seem programmed to expend so much energy exchanging those strange noises to each but each to their own! The slips looked ‘interesting’ but you obviously made it out OK! Maybe DOC have done some maintenance since (but probably not). The bush was just magnificent the whole way - that’s something I really miss. Can’t wait to get back to it!
@onthetrailnzАй бұрын
Ahh the Mangamate Loop is a really good one as well! I did that a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. I don't think Whirinaki every really gets that busy - I did the Mangamate a few days before Christmas and saw maybe one other person. The whio are definitely cool to see and there's so many around there! I doubt DOC has done anything since I went in - they've only just fixed the slip on the 42 Traverse that happened in 2022, so they're a little slow... I can't wait to get back to NZ hiking!!

Why the protective gear at Vintgar Gorge? One word: Americans (from USA). They bang their heads on the rocks, they drown in the stream, they break their arms when making selfies, etc... Sorry about the 10 EUR fee, but it's not our fault. We just don't like to get sued by crazy tourists.

Hi, great video! Just wanted to comment on wearing helmets in Vintgar gorge. In the past there were some serious accidents where visitors ended up in the hospital, because of falls and falling rocks. I assume, for preventative measures, they decided to enforce wearing helmets.

I know it’s a few months since you were in that neck of the woods before you headed off to Morocco and Iceland. You certainly chose contrasts! Shame about the drone ban. That would have been great in the desert areas. Anyway, looking forward to the next instalments.
@jeffc16043 ай бұрын
You were off season too, but try visiting the National Parks in August! We visited several a few years ago and although beautiful they were ruined by the number of visitors. No helmets then and I can't possibly see why they would ever be necessary. Just covering themselves I guess, and attempting to justify the entrance fee? In NZ, apart from a few honeypots (e.g. Tongariro Crossing) it is so easy to escape the hoards. We're incredibly lucky in that respect. Isolation and a small population has its advantages!
@onthetrailnz2 ай бұрын
Haha yes, the temperature differences were definitely quite noticeable!! It would have been awesome to fly the drone in the Sahara, but still got some good shots from the ground 😀 I’ve been a bit slow on the editing lately with starting university, but I’m getting back into it now and working on the Morocco ones and some of the drone videos from Norway as well, so hopefully I’ll get another video up soon 😁

You my friend need to get learn a lot. Calling Slovenia a Balkan country, calling the capital of Croatia Zagreeb. Ridiculous.
@onthetrailnz3 ай бұрын
That's awesome you're trying to learn English 😂 Every published atlas, Google Maps and Apple Maps list the capital of Croatia as Zagreb. I realise Balkan people like to argue with their neighbours about everything, but is it really worth dragging a New Zealander into the debate?! And Slovenia is a Balkan, although this is just another point Balkan people like to argue about - so many arguments!!
@GoranRadic3 ай бұрын
@@onthetrailnz Zagreb yes, but not Zagreeb. You pronounced this ee like i in Madrid. Balkan is a Turkish name for the mountain in Bulgaria. Some German idiot decided to call the whole region that name in the 19th century. Both Turks and Germans are just the occupiers in the region. Whoever uses the name Balkan for the region and the people od the region is doing it in a derrogatory manner. Shame on you ignorant.
@onthetrailnz3 ай бұрын
Congratulations on being arrogant enough to be the first comment that KZbin has held for review and flagged as inappropriate!! As far as the pronunciation of Zagreb goes, here is a place name from my home country: Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu It would be great if you wanted to send through an audio recording of you saying that so I can critique. Or you could try Te Kuiti if you want an easier one. Thanks for sharing your view on being called Balkan and I'm sorry if you found it derogatory. I know quite a few people from the Balkans who proudly call themselves Balkan people. I'm lucky to have met them - it's good to know that there are good people in the region as well.
@GoranRadic3 ай бұрын
@@onthetrailnz You continue being offensive. Do as you wish. I don’t care if someone is not happy cause I don’t accept occupation. Including KZbin. People who accept occupation are called kvislings. I tried to help you pronouncing Zagreb correctly. If your mission is to never do it, it is also fine.

Great to see grape vines all over the place around Split Jared! That is the origin of the NZ wine industry right there. The original "Dalmatian" migrants - the gumdiggers - came from the area around Split and brought their love of wine with them. I wonder if there is any memory of that migration in Split? Our wines used to be submitted to wine judging in Ljubljana.

I will be at A Lofoten to Leknes for about five days moving around the area . We don't intend to do any ferry tour . So should I purchase A Four Days bus pass or just pay as I get on board the bus . How to check the fares for the buses ? thanks
@onthetrailnz4 ай бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply - I’m in Iceland right now!! I bought the youth one month bus pass for the Nordland region (about €30 for the month for under 25s). I’m not sure about the value of the other passes but the youth pass was definitely worth it for me. You can see the prices and buy them (and single tickets) in the Reis Nordland app, which covers the whole Nordland region (all of Lofoten and quite a bit more). You need to have some kind of ticket on the app to get on the bus. Hope that helps!!
@辛福-m5l4 ай бұрын
@@onthetrailnz Thanks for your response . What is the average pricing for a single trip to hop into a bus for Lofoten ? We are a senior couple , anyway to check the bus pass for a week or month ? Thanks.
@onthetrailnz4 ай бұрын
@@辛福-m5l I think the standard 7 day adult pass for Nordland is 1290 NOK (about 110 Euros). I'm not sure if there is a senior one available. I didn't really look at the prices of the tickets since I had the pass, but I know for sure that for the trip I did, the pass was worth it. Individual tickets are quite expensive. With either a pass or a ticket, the only way to buy and use them is with the Reis Nordland app (or the Troms Billet app for the Troms og Finnmark region). You can enter two points on the app and it will give ticket options and should also show you the passes. You can't use paper tickets or cash - they aren't sold there.
