You actually lost more speed with that type of intake. The best intakes are right behind the grill, so they don't take in hot air from near the engine.

i'd say no gain nor lose (noticeable, at leat) but yeah thats terrible. its missing an airbox and a way to bring cold air to that airbox.

Or if you want to play it this way, make it custom as close to the radiator as you can. But that's probably more for esthetics/sound than a power increase

Just installed this radiator and kept stock fans in my '91. The radiator is actually too wide. I had to bend the lower mounts and then bend them back. Had to cut away shroud plastic to get fans to fit.

Just installed this with the same fitment issues, I heated and bent the front most hanger and shimmed both front and back rubber bushings with about a 1/2” of rubber. Testing tomorrow

I recently installed this exact exhaust and have also been having issues with the rattling. I was wondering if you guys had the tailpipe hitting the rear towhook as well and what you did to fix it if so.

The Radiator might be ok but the fan kit not so much. The fan just doesn't pull enough air and the shroud is placed to close to the radiator. Your Stock Fans do a better job than the Mishmoto fan kit. I'm going to go with a cross flow from FM or Supermiata.

250 bucks for hose, clamps and filter to suck in all the HOT air from the exhaust manifold. Ouch

The stock intake is also pretty bad for that since the airbox containing the panel filters sits right on top of the exhaust manifold, and it sucks air from behind the right headlamp (looking front on), which is basically where the pod filter sits now. The early mx5's don't really have any easy way to move the filters away from the exhaust since there's very little room to route piping. The difference in cold air and hot air is pretty negligible also in terms of power, just that the early mx5s also had a fairly restrictive intake system, so changing it even for a system like this will improve performance at least little just due to a better free flowing system. Or at the very least, not change much at all aside from response and sound.

@@xenokyomi i agree, i dont think this adds or takes no more than 2hp up or down (not gonna notice that). Add a heat shield (air box) and a snorkel-like tube to throw air inside that box from the bumper that is the key.

@@onlywenilaugh6589 That's just the common name for any intake or change to the stock intake, it is also wording that gets clicks. However something like this will still improve performance. Being that is it less restrictive than the stock system, there is capability of having more air. On it's own you'll maybe only get a 1-2% increase in power, or see no change. However with more modifications, and a good tune? You'll see gains. Especially if you can move the filter out of the engine bay and prevent heat soak. The point of the matter is, the stock intake is far worse for the MX5. You can also just make your own system of course, but people will pay for something that has been designed by a group of engineers, and something that is a drop in replacement without any fuss of having to get all the materials, measure things and make cuts. You're really just paying for convenience and something that looks professionally made, and to most people that's worth it as is. A much better system is the cobalt CAI imo, it includes a heat shield and does move the filter further away from the engine, or about as far away as you can get for the MX5. So it is actually a CAI.

When i bought myself one of these i went into it knowing this problem so i ended up making a heat shield and attached a couple of plastic pipes from the front bumper up to the air intake, it ended up working really well in the end but the only problem is that i have to block off the hoses durring winter because it gets too cold and the engine will not heat up

If you want your exhaust to hang higher get some hose clamps and put them on the hangers or get some aftermarket hangers that are shorter

@@Star02Lord I have one I just installed today on my ND1, on the highway I'd say it's a 7/10 in loudness, esp if you drop a few gears and punch it. At some rpms it sounds like a straight up tuba horn or something. And that's without a muffler delete. IT's only the first day but I'm already wondering if Im going to get pulled over lmao

I’m about to pick up some bc’s myself for my nb but was wondering if you guys were maxed out in the rear or could you go lower? Debating if I need the extreme lows but I’m only planning on dropping my car another 1/2 inch lower than yours so if you had more adjustment to go lower lmk

When we put the coilovers on we still had so much play to go lower if we wanted. I still have to get the perfect fitment but with what i have now im like maybe 4 to 6 inches off the ground haha i could go much lower we just didnt want any rubbing. hope that helps! thanks for the support! :)
