Agree with Happy Place Garage - yes please to trailer repair/improvement videos. A general question about the roof; with your construction method how rigid is the roof, for example if, while in place on the car, you pushed so it moved in by 1/4" on the rear side of the roof, would the other side also move by 1/4"? Hard question to pose and answer I suppose. I'm tossing up how to go about building several 3m x 0.4m long, hinged side panels for my camper, so I have to guess how much rigidity to build in yet keep it ultra light. The roof construction with the rib is a great example and starting point for me, so any answer to the rigidity question above would be very helpful.
@baldcreations80442 жыл бұрын
@Benny I think I get what you mean, when the roofs on the car it's rigid mate, it does exactly what you said move it 1/4" one side the other moves exactly the same, I'm happy to chat it through with you if you need help
@MiniLuv-19842 жыл бұрын
@@baldcreations8044 Thanks, appreciate the offer! I've a little way to go before I get to the side panels, but the general idea is to make a 3.0m x 0.4m aluminium frame using light guage 20mm square aluminium. A layer of 20mm thick sheet of EPS foam will fill the void in the rectangular frame. I then carve "V" slots into the EPS every .3 to .4 m to a depth of around 10mm across the panel along a with single V groove along the lengthin the middle making a crosshatch carving into the foam. After layering both sides with a couple of layers of fibreglass/resin binding the foam and aluminium into a single structure I will start to fill and reinforce these V slots with lengths of fibreglass and epoxy essentially filling the slots. I figure this mimics a torsion box construction. I figure if I can keep each panel to 5kg or less then each side wall comprising of two of these panels hinged along its long side using the aluminium surround for anchoring the hinges, hopefully will weigh less than 15kg each. These side panels and the extra rigid front and rear panels will need to support upto 150kg of passive roof weight along with wind forces when the structure is raised to the living height.
@baldcreations80442 жыл бұрын
@@MiniLuv-1984 keep your eye on the resin mate that's where you weight will be, you could go infusion that would give you the optimum resin to cloth/Matt ratio
@MiniLuv-19842 жыл бұрын
@@baldcreations8044 Infusion, you mean put it in a vacuum bag and feed the resin in under the force of the vacuum and gravity? I think I can do that. I just did some reading following your suggestion and like you point out infusion makes for stronger parts with less weight (less resin). I'm sold! Thanks!! I need to do some research...I'm relatively new to fibre glassing, let alone infusion process. I wonder if I can dispense with the aluminium frame - I think I will do some small trials a/ get some practise with the process and b/ do some strength tests of the EPS infused with epoxy and cloth. Ideas are popping into my head already! Thanks again!
