@PacoWarabi

It's just attached with the single screw. Really, the weight of the ac unit presses the wood against the window which is what keeps the piece of wood in place.

Any house with casement, and or sliding windows should not be purchased. They are absolutely the worst window types imaginable. Of course there could be a few applications where they could be useful. But never for any livable space where a person would spend a lot of time, ie., bedrooms, living, family, etc.. They are cheap windows, often used by developers, as a means to an economical end. They are so limited in their practicality, such as if it rains, can't partially open them like hung windows without rain ingress, as well most portable AC units not workable. Just not worth it.

What a beautiful stress relief this video was! I’m just getting going on ideas for basket weaving. This was an excellent video! I’m so thankful that you didn’t speed up any sections of the video or add any ridiculous music behind your voice. I will be referencing this video going forward. If I want to make a larger basket do I just continue the main disk for a longer stretch of time before going to the curved bit? Thank you, from the heart of Idaho!
@PacoWarabi
@PacoWarabi Ай бұрын
The hardest part was making it in the kitchen and the fridge turning on in the middle. I unplugged it at one point! You can just keep expanding the disk for longer to make a larger basket. It gets harder to keep it flat the wider it gets, but it's possible.

@PacoWarabi 4 күн бұрын
@@briane9729 If they're determined enough to climb to the second floor of a house, they're going to find a way in regardless. They'd first have to recognize that it's plexiglass and not glass in the window (not easy to tell from the ground floor, and second, they'd have to figure out that it's not screwed into place. It would be easier to just break a window on the first floor if they're that determined to get in. This is more secure than leaving a fan in the window, but less secure than dying of heat all summer with the windows closed.

Thanks man. I followed your instructions to the letter and it worked perfectly. I am trying to recreate a type of Iron Age shield from Britain, and the boss of the shield is essentially a wicker basket. So I am trying to recreate it using the sorts of materials that were available, bramble being one of them.
@PacoWarabi
@PacoWarabi 3 ай бұрын
That's amazing! Once you learn the technique, you just have to modify it for whatever material you have on hand. If you're going to recreate a shield, I might recommend willow, as bramble is relatively brittle and weak once it dries.
@seanhuds7351
@seanhuds7351 3 ай бұрын
@@PacoWarabi Thanks for the advice. Willow is also used in its construction, it is meant to be a very light shield for use by skirmishers, not meant for any real combat, just deflecting/absorbing a few blows if things get hairy. They definetly were not built with longevity in mind when it came to combat.
@PacoWarabi
@PacoWarabi 3 ай бұрын
@@seanhuds7351 Fascinating. I'll be interested to see what you come up with when it's all done! Incidentally, you can also make cordage from brambles - I've got a video on that as well, in case that helps.

Ah I am so happy to have found this. I wondered if I could use the invasive blackberry vines and massive stems for basketry. Using something physically invasive and certainly mentally invasive (to all of our yards in the PNW) would be a good use for basketry.

@@theguywitheyebrows This is one of the traditional ways of making baskets, so I don't think the extra spoke can be that much of a problem. Design flaws tend to work themselves out of thousands of years of transition. There is a way to make a basket with even numbers of spokes, which I plan to address in my next video (someday). Basically, it uses two or more weavers at the same time. If you're curious, look up "French randing."

Cute basket, but as little as it is, without having brought a bag, you could have filled your pockets with berries and brought home as much as the basket would carry. Or even better, if it’s warm enough to co shirtless, take off your shirt, tie one end closed (or use the thorny vine to seal one end, Velcro-style) and turn your T shirt into a bag to gather enough berries to make a pie or smoothies for your family.
