Back when I remember that Lake there were two docks right there . And that peninsula was full of snakes . Time changes everything. Or is it just us ?

I believe that was Murray Strunc who stepped over Lady in the marching contest. Lady belonged to Dr. Dunkerly and they lived next to the high school. Lady loved the high school band, and we loved Lady. The marching contest was held in Ennis that year. Many bands performed that day, but Lady wasn't impressed. It was only when we, Lady's hometown band, took the field that she perked up. Give her points for marching, attention, parade rest (and I do mean R E S T !!!) r.i.p., Lady. {from a snare drummer in the E.H.S. Band.}

Enjoyed the video! The roar of the locomotives is amazing. When I was a train order operator at Comstock (32.4 rail miles west of Del Rio) in the early 70s and working the evening shift, you knew when the BSM was approaching. The roar of the engines were noticeable long before the train arrived in the block. With Comstock being about 540 feet higher in elevation than Del Rio, it is uphill and the BSM's power was definitely "making some noise".

thanks for the reply,,,,,there are definitely some things I do miss. Zooming along with that roar was one thing that comes to mind. Take care.

Nice to see train orders being picked-up from the "other side". I worked as a train order operator in the 70s for SP at stations from Marfa to Luling, all in Texas. After that the operator jobs largely disappeared due to installation of CTC.

Absolutely love this SP footage in Texas. Thanks for posting these videos. If you have any more of these please post. Love seeing Hearne and the Brazos Valley back in SP days.

Thanks for the video! I live over in Teague so it was nice to see some stuff on Mexia. The spur to the brewery and the siding in Mexia is all gone, that spur used to be the interchange with the Rock Island and Burlington, and before that, the Trinity and Brazos Valley to Cleburne. Teague to Mexia lasted to 1976, the rest was abandoned in the 40s

Great video. Would you be willing to help me out? I’m working with Charles Smiley Presents to make a video of Southern Pacific in Texas and Louisiana. We have had a hard time finding SSW footage or SP in Texas. Would you be willing to submit any of this or any other footage you have to CSP to help reach the goal of making an SP Texas video? If you know anyone with material have them contact us thru our website at www.trainmovies.com or on Facebook.

The days before event recorders....
@dwain13105 жыл бұрын
not really sure what you mean by 'event recorders',,,,we did have hot box detectors,,,wide load,,dragging equipment, high and wide detectors,,,stuff like that , I started in the 70's ,,not sure the dates of the detectors,,,we also had two sets of eyes on the caboose to watch,,,,( I stopped ,,I believe 6 of the trains I was on from the caboose,,,and I did recieve 4 commendations including the SP 'Eagle Eye' awards three times,,,including the belt buckle....
@christophertracy99445 жыл бұрын
I wasn’t being sarcastic and appreciate these videos. I worked for CP and boy if something went wrong they’d put a laptop on the control stand and tell us by the MPH where we were speeding or not. Most of those old test mile sections go overlooked now and it was fun to listen to you guys work out the math. You have me beat speed wise by probably 20 mph. Love the videos!

My parents, now they'd be up there in the stands like you and very proud, as you must be too....?
