I've been river kayaking/canoeing and done plenty of river rapids over the last 25-30 yrs. I've been on calm seas, but I find the thought of going out in seas like and being far enough out not to be able to touch the floor absolutely terrifying. You guys must have massive testicles.

Swollen appendices wouldn't help at all, but thinking about and predicting how waves go about their day is just about the core of the sport I think. People tell stories about experienced white water paddlers who see only chaos in those waves. The mix between randomness and predictability is endlessly fascinating, be it in rivers, tidals or the sea.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is, I think I get it. Large rivers are very scary to me, while steep creeks sort of invites you along a certain path: this is what you can do with me! In larger rivers, I see the scary traps but not the opportunities. It's because I don't know them well, of course.

With river white water, you're always going with the flow of water and waves (unless you choose otherwise). You always see what's coming and can plan your line. On the sea it's just swirling and battering you from all sides often what's coming is unseen. Seas kayaks ride over waves differently to a river white water canoe, having taken both on light seas, I would feel less terrified in a sea kayak.

I enjoy the video. What is the name of the first song in this ? I like the song, even though I don't understand the language. It was a good song match for this,in my opinion.

Check out Rachid Taha's other music, too! The text is unrelated to the video; I picked the music before timing the clips to it, and don't understand Arabic. Some Arabs I asked don't understand it either, or so they claim. Perhaps it is rude? Barra means: 'Get out!' or 'Go!', they say to me. The second song is calmer, as the paddling is less forceful. I like the text as much as the melody. 'Sympathy for the devil' at once reminded me of Mikhail Bulgakov's 'Master and Margeritha', a book where the devil indeed visit Moscow in the figure of a gentleman and stirs up some intrigue. In the song, I think his visit is pre revolution. I don't read many books like that, but never regret it.

Very beautiful!! Can you tell me the model of sea kayak? The blue one. Thanks.

That's a Nigel Denis Kayak Romany, and likely a model "s" for Surf: Cockpits were slightly moved and rings lowered, but ask Sea Kayaking UK for details. You could move the seat in any kayak. Some here paddle the NDK Explorer, which is faster in most conditions.

@@GuleGardiner Aesthetically my favorite is classic Gulfstream designed by Derek Hutchinson (not for surf but for rogue sea). Also Explorer has sleek hull lines. Thank you friend.

Hey, the footage looks much better on vimeo - I think the compression here takes away some detail in the water which tells us paddlers a lot. Yeah, this was in May sometime, four and five days after high tide as I remember. The music is first from Black Hawk Down with Rachid Taha. After that, the Rolling Stones as taken from some FPS computer game.

Thank you very much! Hard to see why, but there is surprisingly little footage from places like this available on the web, someone should go to Anglesey and do something about it!

Hand pumps, nah, I don´t really find them useful at all. Waste of moneys. Even a foot pump takes way too much time. But some kayaks are hard to empty when upside down. It may be worth it to install some foam to fill up the spaces where water collect when upside down. To empty the boat, simply turn it upside down MrToJo275!
