2024 is way better. Much more well rounded tone. The 25 just sounds brighter w little variation between the pickup position imo

Heads up guys! We actually goofed on the pickup position graphic of the playing sections starting at 01:38 The graphic shows position 1 (bridge pickup) but you will see Chris started on position 3 (neck pickup). You can see the toggle switch on the guitar as a reference but we wanted to point that out to avoid any confusion. Thanks y'all!

2025 High Pass filter model just sounds like a brighter humbucker, not a single coil. Cool sound and idea, though. I like it.

to me it sounds like the 2024 electronics are better. The new version just sounds like a humbucker

2024 sounds much more single coily and chimey and just beautiful. Fail, id say... But the guitar is stunning regardless of switching. Little tuning would go a long way.

PRS needs to try and follow up the HFS…continuing down that line of hotter pickups with heftier output. I’ve yet to play a pickup that’s FELT better than the HFS/VB set in my old custom 24. The higher output just complements PRS’s playability and overall vibe so perfectly, imo. The HFS has this midrange that’s so thick, so vocal and chewy, it brings the best out of literally any setup. When my main DI was a flyrig, the only guitar I’d use with it was my number one cu24 because the HFS, etc. was able to massage authenticity out of that rig in a way that lesser pickups just couldn’t. If you see this, PRS…pleeeaase evolve the HFS and vintage bass. That high output kick to the front end is such a necessary feature to the fullest PRS “experience”, imo

Shows how subjective this is. HFS/VB were my least favourite prs pickups.

HI, so I saw this challenge, and I'm not sure this is going to be fair, but I got the Slate VSX headphone package a while back, so I'm going to put them on to do this...now I don't think I'm going to be able to distinguish the PRS guitars from each other, but I'm saying B is the Taylor...the others sound really good, though...in a recording situation, I still hold to "there's nothing like the real deal", unless the song lends to the piezo thing...and I'm saying that because of the acoustic part in Fire On High from Electric Light Orchestra, which I think was an Ovation guitar plugged straight in using the piezo pickup that was in the guitar, but if a person is recording, and is shooting for as natural acoustic guitar sound that they can get, then use an acoustic guitar, and if it has mic technology in the pickup, you might be able to get away with not having a mic in front of the instrument, or if you have the gear to do it, you might put a mic or a couple of mics in front, and also have the guitar pickup plugged in, so you can have the option to use one or the other on the take, or blend them. Playing live, especially if there is just one guitarist in the band covering electric and acoustic guitar parts, the PRS guitars would be awesome for that situation. Just my opinion...hey thanks for the "shootout"...hope all at Ish guitars are doing great!

85/15's are awful. My least favorite of all PRS pickups. Any change is welcome.

Depending on your ear and inclination, these DMOs will either be seen as a downgrade or upgrade; for myself, I would be keen to try this guitar in a band setting just to hear how that perceived extra midrange and smoothness translates to. I own a CE24 semi hollow and while I love it, some folk have commented that the guitar can sound a little harsh. Now, I pride myself on having good tone; objectively one man’s “harsh” is another’s “articulate”. Let’s reserve judgement until we hear the DMOs in person. I reckon they’ll be as musical as many of the PRS pickups we’ve come to love over the years.

Generally yes the SE’s are pound for pound the better route cost wise. I’ve had some SE’s that have played and felt great, one in particular I wish I hadn’t sold frankly. With that being said, it’s not consistent and I’ve played many that just feel awful. The US CE’s just feel amazing, every time. The QC and time spent really dialing them in from the factory is very obvious as compared to the SE line. And one would expect this, right? That’s where the money is spent. Also what needs to be said is the looks. Like it or hate it, looks matter with guitars. None of us want to play a guitar that we just hate how it looks. What I said above with QC between the two lines is also true. Some SE’s look great but you have to really sift through many that look boring or frankly really bad before finding a nice looking one. Some of the “book matching” on the SE tops is just horrific. I’m talking grain that’s 90 degrees perpendicular from one side to the other, where the grain is very easy to see on one side and almost non existent on the other. I’ve seen a lot of SEs with absolutely horrible looking tops. The CE’s on the other hand come out looking fantastic and really well matched. So if you’re only concerned about cost and not ready to dive in on spending that much on a guitar, yes go for the SE they’re great playing instruments for the price. But the US models are just on another level that without having one in your hands and seeing it in person, it’s hard to get that part across in a video.

Isn't the control guitar equipped with85/15 TCI (not just 85/15)? I actually like that timbre more.

I think I prefer the DMO clean but the 85 work better with distortion because they have a tad more high mids and less bass, but they aren't that far apart from each other it's really just a very slight flavor difference.

I don't agree but lots of people find the 85 a bit too bright and thin and the DMO must have been developed exactly for that reason, they sound closer to what Gibson puts on their guitars.

The 85/15 was a little better. The thing that baffles me is that for all the attention to detail Paul and PRS have, why don't they stamp the pickup models (or the etching on the covers) so that both pickups have it right side up? It's the only thing I dislike about my McCarty is the 58/15 LT on the bridge pickup is upside down. The McCarty I have is 5 years old and now they've gone whole hog with it. 🙄 Imagine if Duncan, DiMarzio, Lace and EMG all did this.
