I am responsible for getting someone a free Domino's pizza due to a late delivery. As a summer job, I worked as a pizza boy in an area I was unfamiliar with (Richland, PA). This was before smartphones when navigation systems were a new thing, and I borrowed one from a coworker. I was lost for around an hour looking for a place that wasn't that far away. The store manager had to get in his car and guide me there, and he gave the customers a coupon for a free pizza. I left there soon after to focus on working the stock room at Ross Dress for Less

I randomly came across a furry meetup in a park in Karlsruhe when I was getting groceries, and they were adorable. 💖 (The lizard ones are called scalies.) I've also had roommates who owned BDSM pup-play masks and harnesses. Different vibe, but probably a lot of overlap

I don't remember if Tony was in the car but back in High School, I was driving friends to some place while playing random, weird German music that nobody else understood. Shortly before we arrive, I put on this punk rock song with a killer bass line. It ended right when we got to our destination, and I told everyone in my sweetest, most chipper, innocent voice, "That was a song about bondage." 😃 Die Ärzte - Mondo Bondage

I rarely drink soda-pop, but hot Dr Pepper sounded so good, I ran out to the corner store looking to buy some. You can get Dr Pepper in Germany if you go to a place with a large enough selection, but I came back empty handed. I'll get it next time I see it. Notable German fizzy drinks include: Spezi/MezzoMix (Coke + orange soda), Fanta (not just orange), Apfelschorle (carbonated apple juice), and the Fritz-kola brand's wide array of hipster craft sodas. But my recommendation has got to be Almduddler, an Austrian herbal soda with a funny name which tastes like nothing else. Has Winston ever had an ice cream float? I miss Pennsylvanian birch beer.

All of those sound so good. I'll have to see what available next time I'm at an international market here. That clear birch beer with the bear in the logo? So freaking good.

@@podcastxwhyz I tried the hot doc, and it's alright. 👍 The heat makes it go flat if someone doesn't like the bubbles, and I thought it tasted less sweet, so a squeeze of the lemon helps. Add a shot of rum, whiskey or brandy, and it's even better. Nice drink for cold weather.

If you ever had knock-off Lego, it might have been the brand Playmobil from Germany. You could use Lego trains in your Melting Pot franchise. Raw meat, boiling pots and building blocks. What could go wrong?! But if you invite someone on a Lego date and they accept, you know you are the same kind of weird.

Playmobil is a legit good "knockoff" though. Very specific look and style to them.

I need to renew my passport, and the consulate doesn't accept cash, so instead I'm trying to send a bank check. But Deutsche Bank has forgotten how checks work and messed it up two times already.

In Germany, Kevin is the stereotypical loser name, and people say, 'Kevin isn't a name; Kevin is a diagnosis.' Kevin and his sister Jacqueline's parents from East Germany are from a generation who thought American names in movies were cool, e.g. 'Home Alone' (in Germany: 'Kevin - Allein zu Haus'). Kevin is a little slow, he misbehaved in school, and his life never really went anywhere. He is lazy, incompetent and will always mess things up. Kind of a Klutz (origin: Yiddish/Middle High German 'Klotz' a lump/clump) It circles around... 😄 Rural churches traditionally had a small harvest thanks fest 'Erntedankfest', but those are getting swallowed up by Halloween. No turkey-day buckle-hats. But they now have Black Friday and its spin-off sales

Germany has "Nougat Bits" which are basically puppy chow without the powdered sugar. It's shredded wheat on the outside with Nutella filling, and each grocery store has their own cheap store brand. It's too much chocolate for me, so I put it on top of my oatmeal. Otherwise, German cereal tends more towards the healthier side with müsli/granola and yogurt and store brand knock-offs of American breakfast cereals with less sugar, probably due to health regulations. But recently, slightly shady candy stores have popped up in European cities. Tara Mooknee made a video about them and how it's probably a money-laundering scheme. Stuttgart has three that I know of, and one also sells the good, sugary American cereals. But I'm not paying €10 for Lucky Charms when Nougat Bits are €3. I guess they can get around health regulations by saying, 'It's a candy store; there's no expectation of anything here being healthy!' 🍭😂🍬

Halloween is slowly becoming a thing in Germany, but All Saints Day was already an official holiday day off convenient for sleeping in afterwards. There's a seasonal Halloween store at the mall here in Stuttgart that reminds me of the Spirit stores. I'm going to dress up and go out bar hopping and dancing this weekend and Tuesday. Germans make pumpkin into soup or bake slices of it like a regular vegetable to eat any time of the year. But growing up in the States, I only ever ate pumpkin in pumpkin pie or the occasional pack of pumpkin seeds.
