What upset me more than Gambit’s death was the creepy disgusting retcon that teenage Rogue had a sexual relationship with Magneto. In X-Men, death is reversible, but an unpleasant romantic history is permanent.

Someone on tumblr made the fantastic point that the Penguin doesn't humanize Oz as it goes on. We start out with Oz as humanized, we see him as stepped on and mistreated by the people he serves and we root for him, even if it's only for a little while. And then the layers peel back, and we see what he did to his brothers, his mother, and Sofia, and then what he does to Victor. You have to hate him at that point, but then you're doubly nauseated by the idea that, at one point... you fuckin' liked him.

This is the best show of the year to remind people that villains don't always have to be tragic or sympathetic, misunderstood, or anti-hero. Because they are and want to be evil, they might merely be evil for the sake of being evil.
@anonyomousАй бұрын
I disagree. We watch oz descend more and more into villainy, because he has been tossed aside his whole life. The show is a master class on misunderstandings and half truths. Oz falls through the cracks in society so many of us take for granted.

But still a nice comment, happy holidays!
@agonyremnanttrap6789Ай бұрын
@@anonyomous There is no objective way to resolve the philosophical question of whether or not people are born evil, because he was born as a psychopath. And that's what made him evil. Not because he got bullied, not because has a bad leg, and not because being impoverished. Because he loves the ambition of wanting to be someone better, he is evil.
@anonyomousАй бұрын
@@agonyremnanttrap6789Maybe, I hadn't considered that. But society and family living shapes people just as much as their psychological selves. It's fascinating and I am definitely not trained for it. Maybe I'm too much of an empath
