The ice isn't always as great as it was on this trip (or most of the time after the first snowfalls). In areas of bad ice, the poles (in both hands) help you navigate through them, preventing falls. When crossing wide cracks, two poles help to maintain balance.

Thank you! 😊 In fact, there are many lakes in Finland called "Pyhäjärvi" (which may be a bit confusing 😅). But this is about 170 km from Helsinki.

Haha, from the camera angle (and regardless of the speed ramp effect) it looks very close, but in reality there was probably more margin than it looks. 😀

Hei, kiitos kommentista! 😊 Joo, Lempäälästä (Hulausjärvi) lähdettiin liikkeelle ja hyviä jäitä seuraten päädyttiin Laukon kartanolle asti, mistä käännyimme takaisin päin. Ei tullut Niilo22 vastaan eikä yhtä rannan lähellä liikkunutta koiranulkoiluttajaa lukuunottamatta näkynyt muita kulkijoita. Olimme näillä jäillä kreivin aikaan, sillä en usko, että olisimme pystyneet toteuttamaan reittiämme päivääkään aikaisemmin, koska jää oli paikoitellen vasta juuri tuoksi päiväksi kasvanut riittävään vahvuuteen, jotta sillä voi luottavaisesti edetä. Muutaman kerran jouduimme maitse ohittamaan joko heikon tai sulan salmen tai niemennokan.

The most important thing is to test thickness of the ice in order to assess whether it is safe to skate. The other uses for the ice poles are: - Use your arms when pushing against the wind to reduce fatigue - Keep your balance more easily on uneven ice when your skate hits a surface obstacle - Keep your balance as you leap over a wide crack in the ice

gosh I love this!! I broke my arm ice skating 2018. I have my iceskates,(in my trunk) -- only 6 months old when I broke my arm.Trying to get my nerve to go back. HOW I MISS THAT FEELING ON THE ICE!! BUT, AT 70, FEAR IS IN MY HEART. Plus, my hubby gets nervous everytime I bring it up! :D
