I visited this as a kid, late 70's while spending the summer w/relatives in Mobile. I still, at age 53 have the souvenir mug my aunt/uncle bought for me there. I have no memory of this visit.

It is a replica of the H.L. Hunley, not the actual which is at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in Charleston. Still this is a nice educational tool. It is incongruous to place it next to a jet aircraft.

Nice looking F-8 Crusader keeping it company. That was not the first submarine ever made but it was a pretty good refinement of the original Turtle and others. Also it didn't submerge, just stayed at neutral buoyancy with the cupolas visible.

0:46 For the question about the hydraulic lines - thats essentially the computer that controls it! There werent computers back then that could handle the 800 degree heat, so they made a hydraulic one!

Such a disrespectful shame and waste of tax payers money , just leaving that equipment out to rot in the elements . The commander there should be removed in disgrace for their lack of proper maintenance and care of multi billion dollar reconnaissance aircraft . Before you put me down , I'm 55 not 12 , I know the aircraft is retired , but I also feel we owe much more to these machines and the engineering that went into them to just cast them aside like fodder . Give the machine back to the American people who paid for it if you can't do right by the machine . If we can respect nothing , then nothing shall ever respect us . I say to the lazy Commander there l, " Get your house in order , and show respect to all equipment that the American Citizens paid for , Straighten up ! "
