Why not duplicate the path if you want to save it? Personally, I have almost never "re-used" a selection just made them to create masks. Paths for sure but those are two different intentions/workflows. This seems a bit of a niche nitpick as your intention is to make a selection not to re-use one right? Do you normally save your selections as paths as well? Seems like a lot of people coming from Adobe call features of other software "bugs" when they really mean this does not work like how I learned it in my old software i.e. does not work my old way therefore this is broken.
@dekeNow9 сағат бұрын
I think Affinity’s reasoning is in keeping with yours; once you use the path, why go back? (And, of course, you can implement the path as a vector mask.) But, personally, I go back to paths all the time. AND you can save a path along with a JPEG file, making it a great low-rent way to share clipping paths. Just saying.

I'm looking at moving away from Photoshop because of the pricing model. I really only use the Camera Raw filter anymore anyways, but I haven't found a replacement for everything it does..most things...but not the color mixer. Specifically , the PS color mixer allows me to pick Red,Orange, Yellow, Blue, Aqua, Purple or Magenta, and adjust Hue, Sat and Lum for each of those colors. I have found no other program that allows me that type of control. All the other features in the Camera Raw filter can be found elsewhere, but not the color mixer. I do astrophotography and after doing the majority of image processing in Pixinsight, I bring my images into Camera Raw for some final tweaks. Any idea where I can find this functionality elsewhere?

While I am more of a Lightroom guy, I have been using PS going back to the mid-90s. That said, Adobe is really slow walking any serious progression on the iPad or mobile, be it PS or LR. While I may be in the minority with regard to PS/LR users utilizing the iPad for serious processing and editing, however, over the past few years, I have seen more and more photographers adopting this format, especially those who like myself are frequently in the field and like the portability of the iPad over a Macbook Pro or any laptop. So, I am hoping that Adobe will take mobile a lot more seriously in the future and give the respect that it deserves.

Deke, I wonder if you've had the opportunity (or desire!) to check out an Illustrator killer (well, maimer, maybe) called *VectorStyler* ? In terms of feature parity, it would seem to be better than Inkscape, Affinity Designer, and CorelDRAW. Plus, it even *_looks_* like Illustrator. It's not free, at around $100, but I really enjoy it. I live in Clip Studio these days, and its Vector Layers offer me all the tools I need for comics-making, but if I were back doing product drawings, VectorStyler would be my go-to.

So ... the printer has white ink? Not CMYK?
@dekeNow10 сағат бұрын
Fabric printers come in many varieties. But typically, it’s not a CMYK process. (CMYK inks blend with each other; silkscreen pigments are opaque.) This white-only approach results in a soft immersion, so you don’t feel the inks on the surface of the fabric.

As a digital painter/artist who has had both Affinity and PS installed for a year I'd want to add that if you need the PS brush engine at all you will also want to install ProCreate or Clip Studio to still have the best digital painting experience but they are also a low-cost one-time purchase. Also Affinity so far doesn't have as robust a support for CMYK, LAB, or Indexed color spaces as does PS but hoping for more in Affinity 3. I'm still happy with the new workflow and am about to permanently dump Adobe.

Unless you have a valid serial number from the olden days that you took the time the register with Adobe, it really isn’t.
@johnnyc.597924 күн бұрын
I honestly hate Adobe now. My CS5 suite suddenly doesn't work, because supposedly it's registered on too many computers. I deregistered ALL my computers, which did not resolve the problem. I paid close to $400 for that suite when I was going to college. I can still use Illustrator in Windows 7 inside of Virtualbox since I won't allow it internet access. Photoshop will work as well, but with some issues and is slow. Adobe acrobat pro will not install. And I used that all the time before. I'm not paying $20 a month just to get the latest Acrobat, insane. And they steal your image data to develop their AI but they retracted when they got caught. They are now under investigation by the Feds, we'll see what happens with that. I wasted so many years learning Photoshop, and I promise they will never get another penny from me. I'll learn Affinity instead. So disappointed in Adobe, I honestly don't know why ANYONE continues to pay them every month.
@RazakelKairo199417 күн бұрын
Want to say though, that learning photoshop isn't for naught. Its like me switching from, say, 3dsmax to another 3D program. Requires some fiddling around and some training (be it self-taught or not), but ultimately the basics and workflows revive themselves and the process is much easier and quicker compared to when you first started doing this kind of thing at all. Tools don't make the artist as they say. 15 years later using Photoshop, it holds up quite true when I try out any other piece of software.
