The other important lithium charging point most DIY chargers ignore is the termination current when the charger reaches the max charging voltage. The cells will continue to draw current at the max voltage and convert this current to heat instead of absorbing the current.

How is this different than a MOSFET?? It even needs to be discharged to revert to default setting JUST LIKE A MOSFET!

Thank you so much for this Very informative explanation. I do think, however, that it would be better titled as a warning to all about buying cheap third-party batteries. The world needs to know!

It used to be a rumor that those extra pins makes sure you buy only a battery from manufacturer to make money but today now it is true. If you transplant a battery from another identical phone the phone will lock up.

What about the present smart phone batteries. Do they exist?
Electronic/electricity engineers are one step higher then other engineers, heard this from a 30 year experience non electrical engineer.

I would still buy third party batteries. I can just test for that. And chances are it's fine anyway (I only ever had one battery catch fire during charging and that was a chinese ipod nano replacement battery that lasted 10 years)

Great information about phone batteries. But you can leave the background music (noise) out, serves no purpose and makes it difficult for hearing impaired to understand what you are saying, which is why we clicked on the video in the first place.

Because there are stories that the manufacturers are forcing you to buy their batteries. It's not, it's a safety feature.

@@bro5756 It could be, but it has a small voltage output from a NTC resistor, so it is a temperature sensor.
