Nice trailer. If we get a spinoff (which hope we do) if it was a ten episode series, a limited standalone series with every episode as a two-parter, then it would work.

Dot And Bubble: The point of the episode is that white people do *miss* the fact that something is racist. It's entirely the point, so if you missed it, you're a part of the problem. That's the problem with "anti-racism", the goal isn't to be blind to racism. It's to be aware of when something is racist so we can change.
@SkyWasTheRobot4 ай бұрын
Hi, friend. I agree with your comment to a certain extent. Firstly, just to note, when I said that I was so anti-racist that I couldn’t see race, that was self-deprecating joke at my expense. Obviously, being anti-racist isn’t the same thing as not noticing race or racism. I was just poking at my own stupidity. I agree that it’s important to be aware of these things. I think Dot and Bubble was brave with its ending and incorporates the realities of time travelling as a black man in an interesting and powerful way. However, I sympathise with some of the arguments against Dot and Bubble: namely, that most episodes of Doctor Who have an entirely white cast. For a show which has historically been a mostly white production, in which the writing and directorial team of this series are entirely white, it’s a bit rich to them turn around and go, “Aha! You didn’t notice that everyone on this planet is white? Shame on you!” Imagine if this happened at the end of, for instance, The Doctor Dances, which also has an entirely white cast. I feel that Russell T Davies should have given this idea to a black writer who could actually impart their own experience into the story. Otherwise, I did like that Dot and Bubble challenges the audiences expectations - but to argue that not noticing something that we’ve been told not to notice for several decades constitutes a personal flaw in an audience member… not sure I agree with that. But I hope you’re enjoying the season as much as Natalia and I 😊

@@SkyWasTheRobotI don't see race. I see melanization and discrimination because of that, which is very stupid, because skin color is epigenetically heritable and can change in a population in a few thousand years. I also see that the racism that might have killed Gatwa in Rwanda, which was established as important by that Rwandan prover on his whatever, was by people who were just as melanized as he. That is, it was Hutus (Bantus from West Africa) against Tutsis (Watusis, Nilotics from East Africa) who together almost wiped out the native Twa people. And all of the racism was based, inasmuch as racism ever is based on any ethnic characteristic, on *height.* (See the episode of _The Goodies_ with apart-height, which is really quite perspicacious.) Of course, Rwandans couldn't tell the difference, and Tutsis could purchase a Hutu stamp on their ID. One Tutsi escaped death because there was a Hutu with the same name happened to be taller. The Hutus slaughtered Tutsis at thrice the rate Hitler slaughtered Jews with cheap Chinese machetes, and the rallying cry from the Hutu Power radio station was to cut down the tall trees. Hutu Power was supported by the French, who have more genetic differences from other European groups than those European groups have from melanized Africans. Imagine what a good writer such as Neil Gaiman could have done with such an example of _racism!_ For RTD, in whose pasty lap (or, not to put too fine a point on it, bottom) this just fell, to turn it into, "Neener neener boo boo, you didn't notice they were white!" Insults the intelligence of a peanut.

It was objectively bad. The plot was practically non-existent, the dialogue felt so forced and unnatural even Indira Varma, a very talented actress, couldn't sell it, the CGI and costumes too glossy to look real, the usual over-emoting from anyone not named Millie Gibson.. it was an episode made just for that one scene that Davies thinks is going to be a TV moment that becomes part of history; a gay interracial kiss. It's losing viewers because it is bad television. Nothing to do with bigots touching grass etc.

Hey, Chris! It’s a shame you didn’t like it. Natalia and I thought it was pretty good. I’ve got to say, personally, I don’t feel it was derivative of Human Nature/The Family of Blood. Jackie mentions to put a quid on the lottery syndicate, presumably the one at Rose’s job, referenced when she’s calling for Wilson in the basement. Roses missing posters say she went missing on March 6th, 2005, which was a Sunday. Jackie says it’s Wednesday. Great podcast guys :) Interesting fact: on its original BBC1 transmission, at the scene when Rose enters the basement and says " Wilson". The audio sounds , from the rehearsals of The Graham Norton Show were broadcast over the episode " Rose" at the same time. The Dr Who team had to quickly ring the BBC to tell them of this accident ! Also, don't forget, after the 1996 TV Movie there was Richard E. Grant's animated Dr Who story " Scream of the Shalka" which had a cameo voice over from... David Tennant.
