thanks for the video...specifically when you mentioned multing the two envelope patch cables and sending to rene where exactly did you plug them into? guessing x and y of some sort.

I have a rene2 and new to just friends and wonder if a way to use sequence created on Rene with envelopes of just friends? I am still a novice with modular and like the shaping abilities of JF but not sure how to use with cv out on Rene.

While I appreciate the work put into NG, I find the price crazy for the 2 channel LPG, even with enhanced features like 3 decay modes. It works nicely but does not warrant 500 quid price, and no vactrols either. Optomix can be found for 160 on a second hand market.
@MartinDoudoroffLLC2 ай бұрын
Well… I still have Optomix in my rack, but I always reach for NG first. It’s too convenient, too good. It didn’t cost me 500 quid, but it gets used enough that it would be easily be worth 500 quid. And vactrols… there’s really nothing special that vactrols bring to the table in this application other than making every unit a gamble.
@earlsfield2 ай бұрын
@@MartinDoudoroffLLC I agree about the gamble, but the envelope vactrol ping due to the nature of photo-resistor is unique (dragging and late, just like opto compressors). A matter of taste. NG is around 700 quid atm second hand, this is mental. However, glad you found a good use for it, it is in no way sub par, just different. You can get it to sound like optomix, and then you have all these other options. But again, price is insane.
@MartinDoudoroffLLC2 ай бұрын
@@earlsfield 700 quid is a too much, but then again, plenty of people shell out much more for Cwejman and that ilk.
@earlsfield2 ай бұрын
@@MartinDoudoroffLLC Agreed, Cwejman one is story on its own. Absolutely these are insanely overpriced atm due to the hype. I don't mind forking money for modules I like, I have Serge setup separately from my Eurorack so I am not being steep on money. Somehow I did not have a chance to pick up NG when it came out, since it has this acoustic model, I am sure it would pair well with physical modelling stuff (how does it work with Rings or similar)?
@MartinDoudoroffLLC2 ай бұрын
@@earlsfield NG just works with anything. I particularly like it with wavetable oscillators. One interesting alternative to NG is Steady State Gate, which a friend has. SSG is very pliable. The down side to all the parameterization is that you have to stop and dial in the sound you want, but it seems pretty great.

Thanks for this tutorial! The scale options are important to me as I decide if this is what I'm looking for and this helped clarify a lot. Not related to this feature, but do you happen to know the range of frequencies available via the pitch knob (assuming the root knob is kept constant)?
@JayHughes-zv5qr5 ай бұрын
It almost sounds as if when you turned knobs on the Ensemble, the other oscillator was harmonizing with it. Was that the case? If so, how did you patch them together?

Superb! A question though. Why not all C based chords? Root/pitch usually are 'tuned to C' and you 'offset' them with root/pitch CV.

@@MartinDoudoroffLLC The Dark Time is really lovely. The pots are excellent, it has that vintage analogue sequencer feel, yet has lots of great functions. The only thing I'd change is the type of switches, they're solid and durable, but not easy to change on the fly like the rather uninteresting but very functional rubber push-buttons on the little SQ-1.

Great tutorial! Have you had to mess around with calibrating the 1V/oct jack? I've tried it half a dozen times to calibrate it properly to my Arturia Keystep but it never seems to work properly. Ultimately I have to use the Keystep on the lower octave levels and then pitch the EnOsc up to whatever my desired register is to maintain accurate tuning when playing across the entire keyboard. I'm curious if anyone else has ran into this problem.
