Sorry but Steam is an evil empire that has ruined gaming forever. They are the ones that are responsible for changing ownership into renting. ie. you do not own your steam games at all. so many people are living in what i call mass dellusion about steam. Tomorrow if steam is bought out by someone and they decided they want to take back all your games and have you buy them again they ca and it would be totally legal. Read the first line of the steam os TOS. YOU DO NOT OWN THE: GAMES in your library but have are just renting them out and they can be taken back whenever steam wants. That is the TRUE problem with games today

I work for a company that got bought by Embracer. Whats crazy about these conglomerates buying up everything is that they have NO IDEA what they are doing. The level of incompetence in all the senior-level people and everyone in the business side of things is truly staggering. They bought up all the studios and now they are driving them into the ground, losing hundreds of millions of dollars, and have absolutely no idea what to do next, so they are panicking. They're doing mass controlled demolitions of their own productive capacity not because it isn't making money, but because its not making the kind of insane windfall profits you need to paper over their staggeringly poor management. I cannot imagine they make it another 5 years at this rate

Dude, people just after whatever profit them the most. But they just do whatever they think it would sell, which occasionally not the same thing as what consumer wants. The there are those DEI, which confuse them even further. While it is not my problem that large company burn their cash away on random nonesense... this is getting old. You guys better lift your chin up, stand your ground, speak out loud and don't lets these idiots control the narrative. Otherwise, you might actually run out of quality games to play.

While I do agree that monopolies in the video game market would be bad for the consumer, this video seems to use emotionally charged language and makes the error in expecting the video game market to be best under perfect competition (which is a theoretical model that is only expected to apply for commodity goods like grain or coal).

I worked in the video game industry as a 3d artist. They treated us employees like disposable slaves. If you don’t have 8+ years experience they won’t hire you. Young talent cannot enter the industry unless you know someone. Thus new ideas cannot enter either and people 50+ who have no idea what young people want make all decisions. And even with years of experience you can get laid off or get disposed of very easily.
