I have on the bench two units with a similar behaviour... The RF detection seems to fail when the tuner is in some L/C combinations and you change bands. So, well, not a great product!. I am trying to at least find exactly where is the problem, at which levels the electronics stops detecting RF and if something can be done to fix this. I will get back if I find a solution

Thanks for this video! I just tried it on my TS-890 and the RX EQ OFF has the same high frequency roll-off vs FLAT, exactly like your TS-990. Good to know!

Fortis, your videos are extremely helpful! I did one of the first reviews on eham 10 or 11 years ago. I absolutely LOVE this radio! I have learned a lot from your videos as this is a complex radio to master but easy to get started with. I hope you post more, Yasou!

@@fotissv8rma i saw something about...its because your powerout drop for high swr......thats what i understood! i m thinking to buy it and mount it close to my multiband deltaloop feedpoint.....but i guess i need to buy a remote control as well and 12m of rs232 cable. thanks for sharing (i prefer this instead of the 998RT)

Oh wow, 7 years ago and I am just about to take delivery of this rig on Friday. What a fantastic video and so easy to follow and understand. Mine works fine. You either have the settings wrong or are not putting enough carrier into the tuner. I will not always go into tune mode with 10 watts or less

All the settings are checked many times,tested from 10 to 50watts with no luck.the service department in Germany checked it (twice)and confirmed the malfunction.MFJ also confirmed and told me that it doesnt work right ,but their manager refused that it is a false product. They even send twice the main chip to replace it ,but of course with no luck. The problem is that they dont know what causes this. I receive many messages from people with the same problem,but noone can find a solution. If yours works fine ,then you are very lucky.73

Yours actually works great compared to my 998. $700 for this POS! I simply gave it to my brother-in-law for free. He can throw it out in the trash if he wants.

Hi Elan,this selector is about the 8pin mic connector.As I haven't connected anything there it doesn't matter where it is set.

One Question, when you demonstrate the BC Button, is the Manual Notch filter on? ( The reason is, how about the Cursor on the right side)

Hi,all the dispays show the same thing,the 990's main dispaly.The one over my head is the one directly from the radio .The next to it is from the CAT program supplied by Kenwood.73 de SV8RMA

Great informative video .How do you run your audio equipment into the radio via microphone socket or accessory socket??.I have rack equipment and i am thinking about the purchase of this radio ,i have modified ts950sdx would this radio hold its own against a modified ts950sdx not RX but purely audio point of view

+John Gulliver Hi John I am still experimenting the rack equipment...I will come back with more info when I'm ready.The radio can handle very low and high freq .My last tests are in the mic (front socket) with very good results.

Great Video, Would be nice if you could verify my findings of a 60-65 KHZ. being generated by the TS-990 power supply. I have a very strong EMI variable pulse on this frequency .Would be curious to see if you have it too with no antenna's connected.73,Larry,VE3EDY

I sell all my extern audioequipment. The Reason is, when i drive with Clubstation Mode with 1 KW, so i have big problems with interferences ... 2 Questions please. Why are you work with 2 Equalizers ? One Intern and 1 extern ? Have you an example from ONLY the Intern Equalizer from the TS 990S? Thanks !

Well the 2 EQ's is my personal reference.You can do the the job even with one.My other audio chain consists of 4 EQ's!!!Now I am working with only the TS990 EQ and a simple HC5 Heil headset.The audio reports I get are excellent!The TS990 has excellent modulation!73
