Thank you so much for the video, it's so helpful. One question, when we test the insulation, like a toaster, why we need to connect the L and N to do the test. Connect the L and N, one probe connect to connector and the other probe connect the earth. Can we just use the 2 probes, one connect the L and the other E, or one L the other E?

If it has to be double insulated does that mean you have a conduit through the wall cavity on the top system

Solar dc cable is typically double insulated, that's why on vintage solar setups they didn't even bother putting it in conduit. Funny how after a few house fires they changed the standard.

We have a test setup like this for our aprentices. On the side is a bank of 6x 6 gang switches where we can introduce a selection of faults from high resistances, missing earths, shorts, incorrect polarities, and open CTs. Makes for a great tool for those about to embark on CAPSTONE.

why dont you test active to neutral. what if there is active to neutral short or fault? you miss it?
@MrJoysiq
@MrJoysiq Жыл бұрын
you will not miss anything it will still come up with a fault hes just speeding up the process by joining the active and neutral together. if you get a fault he would disconnect the bridge and test both down to earth

not even sure if i'll get a reply but it would be much appreciated. So I understand why you must have the switches in a closed position like you've explained, but will the control gear of lets say a fluro with ballast and all for example mess with the readings?
@markthespark6240
@markthespark6240 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Anglo Ambrose. Nice rifle in your picture. Because the A & N are joined while doing the test, you are testing both sides of the ballast at the same time so it makers no difference. Is Ambrose your name?

How did you bridge your active and neutral of each individual circuit without undoing the terminal screws and removing the wire? It looks like the clamp went on the insulated active and neutral cable?

Disconnect power first, then join Active with Neutral, measure that join with Earth/Ground bar. Value should not less than 1 Mega Ohm.
