Once again I oome to your channel and learn! Boy do I remember this from endless radio play in my youth but I actually had no idea it was Yvonne Elliman. In fact, I have thought for years she was a sort of "one hit wonder" with "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar" (a glorious song and she sounds so different there, I don't thing I ever would have made the connection." While a dominant part of the 70s and my teen years, disco was never my thing - but one can't deny it was a helluva time for bass and you really rock it here.

Nice song choice Frank. This is a great happy feel tune. Love the walking movement of the bass line. Nice work there. I always enjoy how Van Morrison’s songs could bring out various emotions from the listener with his vocal delivery style. Some of my favorites like “Did Ye Get Healed” to “And it stoned me” to “Caravan” always take me back in time. Many thanks Frank for always sharing such great musical content. Love your channel!

@@FRANKSBASSCOVERS Yes, some songs really bring back memories. Fond memories I hope I have forever. Not only that it reminds me when me and my brother used to play in an Iron Maiden cover band. I used to love playing. I played bass and my brother guitar. Unfortunately, sometimes it's hard to get serious players that aren't either doing it to pass the time of ones on an ego trip. But I have fond memories at any rate. When we used to practice at a place downtown that we rented we used to play so loud the police came to tell us how the whole neighborhood could hear us. I guess they weren't Maiden fans. jajaja

the walk up the scale for instance it's rushed and the emphasis on the 5 is really too much infront of the line where you miss the 1 targetnote with a sense of home but agree to disagree no judging just listening and feeling

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback-it’s much appreciated! You’ve clearly put thought into your observations, and I respect that. That said, I’d like to share some context about what you’re hearing. The song itself was originally uploaded to KZbin from a CD or record and keep in mind, it was released back in 1959. From there, I downloaded it and used Go Play Along software to align the recording with a tab created by a user on Ultimate Guitar. That tab, of course, is based on their interpretation of the song, which may vary depending on the version they referenced. Once aligned, I recorded my bass line to the song and tab using Audacity, an open-source DAW, while simultaneously capturing video on my iPhone. Then came the process of syncing everything-the original recording, my bass playing, the tab, and the video-before uploading it. On top of all that, once the video is live, it’s viewed on a variety of devices, each with potential throughput and playback deviations along the way. Given all these steps, some hiccups in the alignment or feel are inevitable. But I appreciate your keen ear and thoughtful observations. It’s all part of the learning process and the joy of sharing music! 🎶

NIce, thanks, but what the tabs don't always fit what you actually play, like at 0:33 I assume that you only put the official tabs and you didn't want to include your own version in it ! Yours sounds betther though😁
@FRANKSBASSCOVERS6 күн бұрын
Hi - yes, in the song notes I wrote: "I added a few runs but mostly stayed true to the tab". Some songs just have those nice sweet spots for some improvising; which is what I "felt" for this one; like the run up coming out of the solo for example. So, you are spot on, I put the tabs in mostly for a guide which bassists can play along to 'as is' or potentially use my fills (or their own) in those spots... thank you for the view and comment!!🎸

CHAD AND JEREMY! Fun and weird fact by which I reveal myself to be super ancient, but they actually appeared once on the old Batman TV show - as themselves - and that was the first time I encountered them (had to have been in a 1970s re-run; the original appearance was Decmeber 1966 and I was three....) They had such a beautiful, ethereal sound, which your bass playing perfectly complements. I guess like a lot of other groups, they could not transition their early popularity when the British Invasion began into the harder sounds of 1967 and later. Their attempt as psychedelic rock I have to say is pretty embarrassingly bad and I guess that doomed them. But to listen to this is to be transported to that time I idealize, 1962-1966, and you flesh it out wonderfully.
@FRANKSBASSCOVERS7 күн бұрын
Hi Ken- yes! I should have included the pic of them on the Batman episode on the cover. I want to thank you so much for adding such brilliant insights. As a side note- I read that they were often confused with Peter and Gordon. This is one of those songs where the title is never actually heard. 🎸
