I wrestled for 12 years. Graduated in 2011 and immediately missed wrestling. I craved it. 2 years went by and by the grace if God my HS coach came over and sat me down at my kitchen table and asked me to take over the youth program. 10 years later I'm still coaching and loving every day of it. I now have 2 of my own learning to love this brutal sport. There's always ways to stay involved, even of you can't compete, the youth needs help. They ARE the future

Depending on where you live, there are cities that have wrestling clubs. The one near me has a mixture of Greco-Roman guys, folkstyle guys, and freestyle guys. I think we may have like one catch wrestler.

I watched this video for the first time I think in 7th grade, and I remember thinking that wrestling looked really cool as hell, but I didn't see myself participating in the sport. Then 3 years later, I join the wrestling team at my school. I had never done a sport before, so being on the team was something new for me and I would always find myself in shock at the fact that I was actually doing it. The fact that I wrestled and the fact that I loved it as much as I did. Any time I watch this video it takes me back to the that night that I first watched it in 7th grade.

I want all you younger wrestlers to know this: you can PLAY football, you can PLAY basketball, and you can PLAY baseball. You can't PLAY wrestling. Our "sport" is something much more than a sport; it's a tough and disciplined way of life. We may be called athletes by outsiders, but we are much more. Never forget what we have to go through. The training, the cardio, the calisthenics, the sweating, the pain, the soreness and the dieting we do and have done are things most people will never even dream of. We are more than athletes, we are gladiators.

@frankjaxon25812 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasBoyce5000 no I live in Manhattan there are no local wrestling clubs around. I can't do any live wrestling anyway. Right now I just do a lot of weight training. And besides, the last time I wrestled was in college which was in 1998. 😆 🤣 I'm way too old and heavy. I was 126lbs then and 22 years old. I'm about 170lbs now and 44 years old. See what I mean?? Lol 😀
@ThomasBoyce50002 жыл бұрын
@@frankjaxon2581 Yeah I feel that. I had to stop wrestling for a while became of an injury which put me on the shelf for a bit, but once I was medically cleared I went right back into it. There are some people who say wrestling doesn't work in a fight, but they don't know that we know slams and takedowns and alot of guys (and know awesomely enough women) know some submissions which makes Greco-Roman, folksyle, and freestyle wrestling highly effective in a fight. I did folkstyle in middle school and Greco-Roman in high school. I loved every minute of it. I was the only goth kid who was on the wrestling team in high school. There were two skaters and the rest were country boys and ghetto dudes.
@frankjaxon25812 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasBoyce5000 hahaha 😆 😂 country Boys and ghetto dudes, I like that. I did folk style and freestyle. As far as Greco-Roman it was a little too slow for me because I was a 119 pounder in high-school and 126 in college in other words a light-weight. At the time I wrestled, there were no girls wrestling at that time. And I agree with you wrestling does work in fights. I was lucky enough to have learned the art of striking at an early age. And coupled with wrestling skills I could more than hold my own in brawls and fights. Lol anyways , that was a lifetime ago 😅 😂. I also wrestled with country boys . I went to school in South Carolina, so you can imagine lol I was the only black kid on the team for 2 years, after my cousin graduated It was just me. That's why I love wrestling so much. It brings people of all kinds together as one. Comraderie and all that stuff 😆 🤣 😂
