I just did my first flashover simulator this morning in FF1. This video doesn’t capture the intricacies of the fire and smoke behavior. What I saw was the room filling with thick gray smoke from about face level (while seated) to the ceiling. Then the lower layer was a sheet which headed towards the back wall, then turned up and became the middle layer. The middle layer was like an animal with a primeval knowledge that it needed to head towards the fire - which it did. Ventilation was introduced, then the smoke caught fire. The fire extended wall to wall and along the entire ceiling. If you know how a chain link fence looks, that is how the flames looked. Except this “fence” danced and moved in waves. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. We simulated flashover about 5 times or so. All of the fair skinned guys had burns that looked like a mild to medium sunburn. I was unaffected because I’m darker

That is really good training. I did a firefighting class in the mid 80's while in the Navy. We did a lot of live fire training also. Main Engineering space oil fires and hot oil fryers were the main topics, along with flight deck fires.

It’s hotter than 47 Hells in there. It is awesome though! Did this at Gaston college.
