Sorry it’s been 12 years since my build but the Chesapeake web site should have all that info. Cheers

hello. nice build. i am starting with one from the bare plans. did you fiberglassed the exterior of the hull. or only painted with epoxy and paint. how behave the wood after this years. thanks.
@jaspnz2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I would say it is pretty important to use glass fibre cloth on the exterior bottom as this will inevitably be grounded on the beach at some stage. The boat was always stored in doors and washed down after every use so there was no problem at all with the wood.

Where did you buy the kit from ?
@jaspnz3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. It was purchased through an agent in Australia but that was a few years ago and I have no idea if that company is still around. Probably best to contact CLC Boats in the US to get there current list of approved agents. Hope that helps, Cheers

Will this hull be available to buy?
@nzcamper2go6945 жыл бұрын
The glass hull was originally being produced by Salthouse boats (that is Greg Salthouse sailing her!) but their involvement has now ended and is transitioning to a new builder. That has not yet completed but it is envisioned to produce a fully fibreglass version along with a version which allows for a traditional interior finish in wood. If you are interested, email me at [email protected] and I'll put you in touch with the right people. Cheers Paul

The clamp variety is hysterical. Well done video of the build steps and bewdy boat.

When you need 150, you have to take what you can get! :). Thanks for the message. Paul

nzcamper2go - say how do you cut the first layer of fiberglass cleanly? I’m asking about the smaller pieces where you provided a clean edge with the blue masking tape.
@nzcamper2go6946 жыл бұрын
From memory, the glass was actually oversized and not that well cut. I think it may look it in the video but its not essential. All you have to make sure is the cloth is well soaked in up to the edge where you want to stop. Anything beyond this point will either be cut away with a very sharp knife or sanded if you are worried about cutting into the wood. One thing I hadn't come across when I built the boat but have used since is Peel Ply. Great stuff. Its laid over the resin and any excess resin soaks through the peel ply and once dry can be peeled off (Im guessing thats where the name comes from!) taking the excess with it. It will also leave a finish that is much quicker to sand and way more uniform in depth. Worth investigating if you are not already familiar with it. Hope that helps.

Great job! I built mine in 2008 and I row it once a week out of Marina Del Rey in the Los Angeles area. Wonderful boat; very stable and maneuverable in open water.

couple of things, always launch parallel to the shore. it makes it's easier to get in, and also allows you to launch in much shallower water. Also when you get into the boat put the oars perpendicular to the gunnel and fathered to prevent capcising. other than that, beautiful boat. I have mine ordered and I'm stoked to build it. I absolutely love how yours turned out. Is the name painted?

Sweet! ...your oar blades are a bit deep. Also, extend your legs before leaning back...it's legs, back arms.Enjoy ...opps I see this was a while back, sure you're a pro now :)

lovely! Just the project for me in a couple of years' time. For now I'll stick to guitars - they take less space!

I also build guitars and thinking about building a CLC Mill Creek rower/double kayak for a break. ;)

Looks great ! I am about to embark on a similar project . I notice your oars / hands do not overlap as the ''pros'' do .Do you lose any power with that set up ?
@jaspnz8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ross. In the video it was my very first time with this type of rowing set up so everything about it was wrong! I'm still no pro but my technique has come a long way with practice since those early days!

Hi there. The main web site in the US is Cheasapeake Light Craft. I used an agent in Australia to buy mine. Cape Boatworks. I tried to put the links but KZbin doesn't allow it. Try googling both. Hope the above helps.
