Eh, so why not invest in high-speed RAIL between cities? Seriously a train has a far greater capacity than a road. And stops can be limited to city centres. And while you're at it, maybe a street car between particular neighbourhoods?

There have been four newsworthy crashes - in the last month - in my municipality. Most on the highway. It's scary.

The only disagreement i have is engineers start with Speed & volume, & cost - safety is not thought of much, since they feel that by taking care of cars, that’s safety. & tell others not to go there.

Our engineering firm was working for a suburban township to complete transportation improvements for a new high school and local park. The state required Ada ramps at the intersection down the hill from the school and park. There was sidewalk along the park side of the road. The school district convinced the township to not connect the sidewalk to the intersection cause they didn't want to promote kids walking. That's a suburb mindset in a nutshell.

6:20 on driver error. If most crashes are based on driver error, I would still expect crashes to up when there are fewer operators on the roads. The reasoning is operator experience in Western Australia, where operators are usually forced to adjust behaviour to match other operators. When there are no other, expected, operators caution goes out the window and bad behaviour increases, including crashes

As a white American male over 60, I just want to say thank you SO MUCH for this! My (both of us adopted) sister identifies as two spirit, married a two spirit indigenous woman and invited me to attend a two spirit gathering in Montana years ago. I felt so honored to be there and just sit and listen. This culture SO needs indigenous knowledge and insights. It is my profound hope that those who truly need to hear this, will hear it - not just listen to it, but truly hear it! Love what you’re doing!

So it's not actually about the conveyor belts -- that's just an excuse to cover up the fact that "there's just a really limited end market for black plastic" (1:07:21). So why do we keep making ubiquitous take out containers out of black plastic if we KNOW it just ends up as garbage? "At the end of the day, if we don't have an end market, we can't collect it." Exactly. It's irresponsible to keep reassuring people that they can just toss things in the blue bin and everything will be okay. Producers need to stop shoving everything in plastic containers, making it impossible for the consumer to even TRY to refuse (other than not buying at all).

Public bins are often contaminated so bring your recyclables home, you say around 56:00. What are the chances your neighbours are any less careless than the general public? The only thing you can trust more with your home blue bin is that the city will actually pick it up and bring it to the MRF, whereas Recycle Everywhere only provides the bin, not any pickup arrangements.

It would really help all of our refuse strategies if all our suppliers would get on board. (51:20 and following) How many times have you had your own metal fork with you, but the restaurant tossed 5 plastic forks in your bag without your noticing? How many times has the clerk shoved your purchase into a plastic bag before you could say you brought your own? How many times has the restaurant tossed a straw into your drink without asking if you wanted one? How many times has the barista assumed you were taking out and filled a paper cup despite the fact you were dining in and would prefer to use their ceramic mug? We have to stop expecting individuals to swim upstream to make the right choices and instead demand that the refuse option becomes the default. Make people ASK FOR the straw, the plastic bag, the spare ketchup packet, etc., instead of making us ask to avoid it. (Restaurants claim to operate off super-thin margins: think how many cents they could save by eliminating every unnecessary plastic fork!)

"You can be confident >80%is being recycled....and sent to end markets." (47:39) I'm confident about that amount being sent to end markets. However actually being recycled is a different story. What reports do the end markets (or the brokers who connect you with end markets) give you about where it goes next? What data do you have about what actually happens after recycling bales leave the MRF?

"Envelopes can include the window" (35:29). "Can" is technically correct, except that most listeners will interpret that as "may be freely tossed into recycling bins and assumed to be 100% recyclable" when in fact it means "are possibly made from similar materials as paper to be recycled with it, depending on the producer's product choices OR might be made out of something harmful". When it's the former, it's often labelled. Where can we learn more about which major envelope suppliers a) use a high percentage of recycled fibres in their envelopes, and b) create their windows of out bioplastic or something other than plastic?
