Yall won’t see this, but I play with my thumb. I’ve been super insecure about how I play for years. And as Loud as I laughed, I pretty much play in the style that sounds exactly like what that old boy just played. This clip has made me feel way better about playing guitar. Thank you.

I play with my thumb a lot - there was an old black dude named Scatman Crothers - Google "Sanford & Son guest starring Scatman Crothers" - I didn't even realize he was playing - Scat was so good he made it look easy - That episode is a classic - Red Foxx was a great singer/ harmonica player

There's commitment and then there is Prince. Estimates suggest that Prince's vault contains enough material for up to "100 albums" with some sources indicating that it could potentially allow for the release of an album every year for a century. I wonder if he knew that with time, there would be a diminishing return in a sense. His standards were so high that he probably felt he needed high productivity to produce enough material that could meet that standard. I hope The Revolution is allowed input and if necessary to finish some tracks from the vault.

Luck always plays the biggest role of all, but no one wants to admit it, and I am not saying this just about Prince: he was a very creative musician. For true artists working hard isn't that hard at all, it's not artistically minded people who see it as 'hard', they think that creating stuff is like a chore to be done. It's not. The stuff runs in the blood, they can't help it. Whether it's Prince, Tom Cruise, Bruce Lee or JS Bach, it's what Socrates called 'the inner daimon'. 'For many years you won't be able to understand why you had to go this way instead of that. But finally, you'll see that you could have not gone any other way: this was the path that you had to walk on.'. - Arthur Schopenhauer

Yeah, as a music producer I feel like luck is definitely a part. Songs can be like lottery tickets at times, but the more you play the higher the chances of winning.
@Nightbird.4 ай бұрын
A little perspective here: Prince also came from a musical family, so he had them to back his dreams up, unlike most of us who are discouraged by family and friends and told to get a "real job" instead of following our dreams. Prince had every single advantage you can think of, and he used them all to become one of the greatest artists of all time. So don't feel bad or "less than" because you can't do what he did. He was born with a silver guitar pick in his hand, so to speak, unlike the rest of us who have to struggle, get horrible jobs to pay the bills, and are left too tired, beat down and depressed to follow our dreams. A few win the lottery, but most don't. And Prince won it all.

Don't play victim.
@emberembr29444 ай бұрын
@@KickSilverOMG I can't speak for OP but I'm pretty sure this is a starkly anti-self-victimization message. They're saying don't feel bad about yourself for not being #1 because #1 is doing everything perfectly _and_ has better circumstances to make music than pretty much everyone. Aka don't compare yourself to #1, aka don't compare yourself to other people (which is a requirement to victimize yourself (cause "my situation is bad" = "my situation is worse than others'")).
@musical-motivation4 ай бұрын
Thanks for this perspective! I'm trying to teach my kids music at an early age so they have the power to express themselves

Both of Prince's parents basically kicked him out before he finished school. His life after Purple Rain was like winning the lottery, the part before it absolutely was not.

@@emberembr2944 You are right on the money. Thank you for that. This world is full of people who are quick to attack others instead of taking the time to understand what they are saying.
