Hi, I rig my RG65 with this servo and a bigger drum and it is ok.No failure so far and no issue. The larger drum compensate for the low speed with the small drum provided. Goo winch overall even for racing with small racing boat such as the RG65.

Hello, I have just acquired an Affinity rg65 and I was wondering if it was possible to mount sails to class standards?
@consumerwil
@consumerwil 2 ай бұрын
The rig for the Affinity is different from the DF65 and won't be able to sail with the DF65's.

the chains move the switches from on-off, with polarity reversed on one side, so it feeds reverse power when that switch is activated.

Is there any advantage of an RMG vs this?
@consumerwil
@consumerwil 9 ай бұрын
They both do the same things. I like the ARS because its a contained unit (RMG exposes all gearing). And I honestly don't like the process to setup an RMG. ARS uses end points. Easier to setup.

Finally. I’ve had this for a five years and I just couldn’t get it. Never worked. Saw that you spun the tool to the other side and it worked like a charm. The other video didn’t show that. Thanks!!!

Its a class legal addition (see rules update for specific size, type and application). I think it helps prevent water ingress and strengthen hull rigidity.

Hello, you spray water on the hull and sticker. What's the reason?
@consumerwil
@consumerwil 10 ай бұрын
@@tjakkokeizer2548yes, the water helps with providing a little slippage when applying the sticker. All good vinyl will stick after you squeegee the water out.

can you limit the number of turns by decreasing the rate to 80% or setting the end point adjustment on your flysky radio?
@consumerwil
@consumerwil Жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as your radio has end point adjust, you should be able to limit the turns.

@@consumerwil thank you very much 🥰 I recently purchased a 20-year-old Robbe Comtesse sailboat, which has a long servo arm to adjust the bending sheets. I'm considering installing a winch servo in place of the arm, which had become bent due to the high tension exerted by the rigging and pulley system.

I built a few similar to that in the early 80's before proper sail winches were invented.

Holy sheet! That's insane. One problem tho. It's not endplated. Both the jib and the main are deck sweepers on GP boats, this is missing 25% thrust 😬

Hi great ideas here, you will find that if you use a small drop of super glue on your string in the place you want to cut it, then letting it dry will help you have a cleaner cut and produces a short section of stiff and straight string that will be easier to thread trough small holes. :)

I found a similar system in a boat I was given too. It uses a geared motor as the winch and a regular servo to hit micro-switches. It has a further two micro-switches to work as the limits, although this one uses a rotary limiter. Love the chain through the switch system!! A fantastic solution to the problem.

If the speed is about 2 seconds per turn it is not bay any means fast by my judgement. It may be suitable for some non competition yachts. Having used the competitive I will mention below I would strongly doubt it's suitability for a competitive IOM class yacht because it would be way too slow in comparison (less than half the speed) to others like the RMG or Red Ant highly regarded winches which are far far quicker and do not disappoint if fitted to the IOM, Marblehead and 10R class of competition yachts. I have not seen one in any highly competitive IOM or 10R or Marblehead and I suspect the slowness of the winch is reason. Speed it up and it may be a different situation.
@consumerwil
@consumerwil Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment but the winch is faster, more powerful, and accurate than you say. Many skippers, including myself, use these in our IOMs and find they are plenty fast and reliable. They are even used in a competitive 2M which went through high open water winds without issues. I would like to see a Red Ant winch one day.
@Rob-fx2dw
@Rob-fx2dw Жыл бұрын
@@consumerwil You mentioned 2 seconds per turn - I that correct? If it is then it is way too slow. But check your stated speed - It may be wrong. I have found the Red Ant winch is very reliable and has the strength and speed to exceed by many times the two seconds per turn as well as being faster than any I have come across or seen in the past.

@@fstranak It would not wnat to be 2 seconds per turn. If it is just 2 seconds then it would be unsuitable for competition RC yachts.

the switches attached to the servo are spring loaded, so when moved to the other end, powers on, and powers the winch to go in direction ..... when the other one is turned on, the voltage is wired to make the winch rotate in the other direction :)
