The affordances we have given them are the only reasons there are any bad guys at all worth pursuing in the first place. They say security vs privacy is a balancing act? Rubbish. They just don’t want to debate the relative strengths of strong security as we see it and strong security as they do. They seem to believe despite all evidence contrary that caging men makes our systems safe. I say that it is the essence of the true spirit of safety and precaution to insist upon security as a system that has no benefit in gaming or cheating or subverting. Minimal data capture and retention + e2e encryption is scalable. Someone is just gonna have to tell the old boys that their insistence on support for police surveillance and censorship of regular people is why the system gets robbed all the time in the first place. Got a problem with it? There’s your free exit. Good luck recruiting engineers to yoursurveillance state dystopia! 🤨
