How's it now 6 years later? Did Rust seize it up? Was it packed with never seize or grease?

Looks like a solid design, The only issue I see is using a single wire rope clip to secure the cable. For this kind of load you don't necessarily need to follow industry standards but at a minimum use two properly installed wire rope clips. There is a right way and a wrong way. A failure there could make a lot of unnecessary work that is easily avoided.

I have one of these and just set it aside about a year ago. As I recall I was having a similar problem. Been thinking of sending it in, but I have an AL-80B and ALS-600 so it's not "needed" right now. Hope you get it figured out. AB9QU.

WELL I had gotten them on ebay, went on line, can not find them now???????? They were yellow poly caps at 0.1 and 1.0 ufd at 2000 volts. You can find some now that are only 0.1 ufd, the larger ones dont show up on line. Bummer and I dont know how they are gone. That site Alibi or what ever its called may carry them, they require that you log in and sign up. Enjoy Woody.

Have the same issue- the load fault just happens for no apparent reason. I have heard the transistors they switched to the PP100 have a tendency to fail due to higher gain than the Toshibas. Best luck figuring it out, cause same

Why drill holes around the tube socket? Those 4-400 tubes and sockets were designed to force air around the glass seal at the base of the tube. This is the part of the tube most likely to fail due to heat expansion. The air goes in the base of the tube and moves out the sides. Seems like drilling ventilation holes would allow the forced air to bypass the tube seal, making cooling less effective.
