Thanks for such a good breakdown, have got this to do on my Chris Craft Commander

Great video. You make it look easy, but I think we both know how labor intensive this project is. How much brushing thinner are you using with the first coat of gloss?

With just the hull thats mounted to,I believe I would have added a backing block as well, since theres bolts through the hull it would have been just as easy to glue a block in place then add the valve,it would been stronger and I would have used 4200.

Thanks for your feedback. The hull is 7/8" of fiberglass. The white block is a backing plate of 3/8". Because of this extreme construction, another backing block is not necessary. 5200 is the best product for underwater applications, as well as permanent adhesion. It is doubtfully I would ever remove this or want to, but if I did, I would first apply De-Bond, which chemically breaks down 5200 for removal.

Any reason why you chose to add 3 additional holes for the bolts versus using the backing blocks the manufacturer makes for epoxying in and bolting down with out thru bolts? How have those bolts held up? Were they also bronze?

Any particular reason not to grease it before installation?

No reason. Ran out of hands. Fairly easy to grease once installed.

Country Girl is definitely a nice layout in my book. It looks like she’s finally going to get the love and attention she needs. That fly bridge deck is massive.

That’s a nice valve setup! I’m glad to see someone finally making videos working on a classic Hatteras! Good job I’m looking forward to seeing more. You got a great boat there.

Love the pictures! I was wondering what happened to Country Girl! I was just asking Skip Denison at the Ft Lauderdale International Boat Show about this boat because I have been looking for a 64. Good luck with her!

Thank you. I have pursued her for 2 years. Finally got her. Good luck with your search.
