Or , just hear me out. You can get a cheap 20 dollar digital microscope from ali express which has a display , sd card recording feature , take pics , or send the hd video feed to a larger screen.

for low resolutions spi is quite good. better then i2c... for high resolutions 8bit parallel interfece is the best
