Cost for 1 month in Vietnam is very misleading in my view ! Their lack of a retirement visa (like Cambodia) requires leaving the country and '''extra expenses''' just for renewal & it's 4 per year if you want to stay ? Added for a yearly budget will certainly increase the monthly average costs ? + Be honest - it becomes a pain in the ass for older expats ! - - - I believe Siem Reap is a far more thrifty alternative for ''retirement" and travel from there. Thailand also is a "pain in the ass" for visa laws ! But Cambodia is the cheapest easiest and best I have found anywhere !!! - - - Each to his own - but 3 months is very short - considering the Philippines gives you 3 years before you have to leave ?!? 🤔

@@KB3TLE It’s not my intention to sell anyone on living in Vietnam or anywhere else that I am providing information on and perhaps you missed the my many other videos where i discuss your concern in great details regarding a visa run repeated every 3 months. However it’s not all that expensive. Many companies offer the service for under $200 and your back home in Vietnam in less than 12 hrs. So averaged over 3 months it only adds about $67. Nothing earth shattering. I personally agree, the 90 day hassle would be too much for me, I think. But, thousands do it, and many have been doing it for well over 10 years. @@joezip6389 hi Joe! Although your point is well received, I would add two things. One, the atmosphere of the “beach town area” is something that no longer trips my trigger. In fact, I’m extremely saddened by what I see there which is a glimmer” of many parts of Thailand, that being all the young people women that feel the need to take up prostitution to provide for their families. Sure, it’s the oldest profession in the world and exists everywhere, but in many countries of SE Asia it’s 10, if not 20 times fold. Regardless of my location in Thailand, it differed drastically from anywhere I have been. Everywhere else when passing someone on the walkway at minimum, there would be a glance with exchange of smiles. In Thailand, at least Koh Samui, I have to say, especially after arriving in Sri Lanka and being reunited with pleasant kindness that I found in Vietnam, my conclusion is that they Thai, don’t even really like us. Don’t let the hundreds of call girls in the beachfront areas be your guide! They ALL love you!! Or do they? Thanks for watching Joe. I appreciate your contribution! 😄

@ExpatGlobetrotter 9 күн бұрын
@@roygoad2870 Hi Roy! That’s true, especially if you’re staying a little bit out of the way and especially if you’re staying somewhere well away from needed amenities. But, I feel I must use due diligence and add some information for all viewers, not to mention motorbikes aren’t for everyone and the requirement for proper licensing is a big deterrent as well. I know many tourists break the licensing laws, either intentionally or due to lack of real research whether that’s intentional or not is another question. For many reasons I don’t recommend using a motorbike without the required licensing and skills to drive one. The biggest reason is if there’s an accident and you’re not licensed there’s an extremely high likelihood your insurance isn’t going to cover anything. And if your insurance isn’t made aware you’re driving a motorbike, licensed or not there’s a high probability they won’t cover anything. Thailand is rated highest in all of SE Asia for motorbike accidents so that’s a bit scary too. I feel for the “unlicensed” tourists staying in a location with high walkability to amenities is most important and then using a grab to get to destinations a bit further away would be my suggestion. Thanks Roy! It’s contributions like yours that create excitement information for all who are able to read about the different options and mindsets behind the topic! Thanks for your continued viewing and participation!

Hello WanderingMonk! If you're searching for a minimalist lifestyle I suggest watching more of my videos. Along the way, I try hard to point out the does and don'ts to save people money with the primary factor being "Slow Travel" which you will find a TON of good advice in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGrNio2ArL6Hebs Yes, it's long, only due to the amount of really good advice that I provide from all the mistakes that I have made that cost me a lot of money. If your desire is to monetize your channel make sure to download the VidIq extension to your KZbin Studio. It will provide you a lot of good free information. In short, the most important things to pay attention to first are Title, Thumbnail, and Quantity, followed by Quality, in that order. Although my channel is monetized, I have it as a hobby more than anything. The odds are not very good for a travel channel to make a ton of money. There are a few that do, but not many. Watch Paddy Doyle, he's the king of travel channels, or at least one of them. There are also a lot of good links in all of my descriptions. Thanks for watching, subscribing, and participating! You could ask to see the meter readings on the actual electricity bill, it will show the amount month to month! I get my own bills for electricity and water in my rented condo every month, so there’s no dispute!
@ExpatGlobetrotter
@ExpatGlobetrotter 29 күн бұрын
Hi Roy. Yes, this is an option, but more applicable to those staying for several months as the dates of my stay do not match up with the dates of the billing. Again, this doesn't clarify the fact that there could be additional power usage on the meter other than the apartment someone is renting. The best thing for those of us who are staying for times shorter than a few months is to try our best to get an all-inclusive price on the rent. If this isn't possible at least get a picture of the meter upon check-in and verify the meter when electric is due. This at least prevents made-up readings by the host. I'm pretty nervous about what will take place on the 24th of Sept. when I check out. I have a 5000 TBH deposit on the rental any cost for electricity is supposed to be deducted and the balance returned to me. I fear that the host will be conveniently unavailable when I have to leave for the airport or he will tell me that the amount that I owe is over 5000 THB. My 5000 THB is literally in his hands. It's not as if the balance I would have coming is going to break me, I just don't like to be taken advantage of and there's SO much of that that goes on. Wish me luck! @@eicisback Hi Eric! Thanks for the offer! Have you recently gone through the retirement visa process here in Thailand? I think the one thing that causes confusion for many people is that it depends on which immigration office you go to as they all seem to go by a different set of rules. But, in my research on many countries, this seemed to be the case. Especially with the Mexico’s Residency Permits when applying from the US, which with a few exceptions is the only way you can apply you have to apply at a Mexican consulate and every state consulate has different financial requirements. This never makes sense to me for any country. Seems like they could all get on the same page. As always, thanks for watching! I should have never changed my channel name! My video views have been in the crapper ever since! Screwed up the algorithm! 😧

Be careful.. You can’t work as a Property Consultant in Vietnam without a work permit.

I don’t think that checking out a property for a viewer would fall into under “Property Consulting”. I know as a real estate Broker, Owner in the US, (yes different country, different laws) the primary determination of representation was offering to sell or lease a property. In this case, I’m only looking at a property that a Property Manager has for an interested party who’s compensating me directly, not through a sale or lease transaction for my time. Besides that, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about because nobody seems interested in the service. I know I would be all over it if I had someone in a location I was going to that provided this service! Thanks so much for watching and your comment! 😃

I’m finding more that I use Booking . Com it offers some really nice discounts the more you book through them. The other benefit that Booking offers that I REALLY like is a large portion of their listing do not require payment until arrival and also offer cancellation without a fee in many cases up to like 24 to 48 hours before arrival. That’s a huge benefit to me as I find my world has become more ever changing in my travels. I still often do my best to work around any and all of the booking platforms because that’s when I find that the savings is the best.

@@ExpatGlobetrotter Well, YT goes way beyond that, unfortunately. I'm careful enough, but they even delete comments with links (even YT links), financial advice, mentions of prices sometimes , and all kinds of stuff, to the point where anything can arbitrarily qualify for deletion I was just telling you to check with AIS (in store) to get yourself a yearly phone plan with unlimited internet instead of your monthly one, which would allow you to save a lot (I gave some details). Let's see if they delete this less detailed one as well, though.

@@kathiejones2920 Correct, Medicare provides no coverage outside the US. Although I haven’t personally used the medical care in Thailand, others who have and my research tells me the Medicare in Thailand is some of the best in the world. Many people from abroad come to Thailand to get medical treatment due to the quality and low cost, so many that Thailand even has a special visa for medical care visitors. @@ExpatGlobetrotter You're welcome, I like your practical approach in these videos and the attention you pay to details. Keep up the good work. Just a few thoughts: - You did face overpriced food, as they took full advantage of their monopoly on the scene that week. So you can call a spade, a spade, and use that term, lol. You didn't have any choice, though. We gotta do what we gotta do. A little side note: At the markets, food stalls tenders do the exact same thing every time they notice being the only ones selling a particular product that day. They raise the price all of a sudden, lol (Offer and demand laws). - Be careful of the message you send every time you tip here. Let me explain: Thailand does not have a tipping culture and the service is always included in the price tag, so there's no reason to feel obligated to do it (you said yourself, the staff didn't even clean your room). I know it's mandatory and expected back home, but not here (especially at normal restaurants and normal hotels). I would recommend to only tip when the service is really excellent, the staff amazing, or when they do something they're not supposed to (or not this good), not when they just do their job. Why do I say that ? Well, because every time you tip, you send these little messages here: 1. The price was not high enough (that you found the need to add some). Therefore, it is counterproductive and will also be in the near future. 2. You don't respect money and its value, cause you apparrently have too much of it. Here, locals lose respect /consideration for you over that (it's valuable to keep it in mind, especially when you stay somewhere for a longer period of time, where you'll keep seeing these people). That's how they keep seeing us as all rich and walking wallets, who just get money from a money tap. Thai people are very pragmatic and down to earth, 😁. 3. The more modest the people, the more distance you create between you and them by tipping. Note that YT deleted some of my comments on your previous videos.
