Well done for using the bracket ears. it’s so disappointing to see so-called high-end case makers mounting the screws from outside of a beautiful wood case 🤦🏼♂️

SBMM are really good quality for the price range. Really good sound too. But you are comparing two different guitars. No two guitars will ever sound exactly the same. I used to play guitar and now bass and I never disregard cheaper guitars.
@TheDinosaur82Ай бұрын
I don't like StingRays enough to spend over $2,000 USD for a US-made one, so a $600 SBMM gives me the StingRay sound when I occasionally need it for a good price. If I loved StingRays more and wanted to play one every day, I would spend the money on a new StingRay Special because the neck is incredible and worth it on a daily player.
@daveweed2765Ай бұрын
Why? There is a lot of quality in Sterling by Music Man. Leave the expensive guitats at home playing gigs. When I played guitar I always played Epiphones at gigs and left my Gibsons at home. Now I play bass so SBMMs and Squires. Plus no one wants to see you retune half or whole steps down so cheaper price you can buy more. Just something to think about when your venues aren't sold by Ticketmaster.
@TheDinosaur82Ай бұрын
@@daveweed2765 I totally agree. I wouldn't take a $2k bass to a bar band gig. But if I was rehearsing, recording, performing as a professional, I would pay the extra money for an EBMM StingRay Special. I have 2 Sterling basses and a Sterling guitar, so I'm a fan of their product.
@daveweed2765Ай бұрын
@@TheDinosaur82 I just have fun playing so I maybe a "prefessional". When I played guitar at gigs I always had 6 at least. I hate tuning up and down. So at least 2 tuned down a whole step. At least 2 tuned down a half step. And two in standard. Now I carry 3. And you gussed it. Whole step, half step and standard. Retuning constantly stresses the strings or at least I believe. And changing guitars is a lot faster than retuning. So many guitars because strings break. I have yet to break a bass string. Honestly 20 years ago cheap might not be so good but today cheap has a whole different meaning. Epiphone is owned by Gibson, Squier is owned by Fender and Sterling by Music man is owned by Ernie Ball. And the quality is there. Even if I was a professional I would probably play cheaper over expensive. Now anyway.

Great video and I can't wait to do a build with these rails. This should definitely be the new standard. Who is the maker of the blue case you have? I didn't catch the name.

They look good, my engineering brain says "How did they sort the strength of the threads in Aluminium as I find it relatively easy to cross-thread or strip the threads from a Threaded Steel strip, at the very least they would need hard anodising after being tapped (Threaded)" Cheers
@Teian-worldАй бұрын
Asiarack uses high-strength 6061 aluminum alloy combined with anodizing process, which can be applied in most scenarios used by artists. Additionally, the material of the thumb screw is also aluminum alloy, specifically designed to work with the rail. Nevertheless, caution should still be exercised when tightening the screws.
@enginerdyАй бұрын
You could use nylon screws, but best practice is to always reverse direction and feel the threads ‘click’ before attempting to start threading the screws down. It’s really hard to cross thread when you do it that way
@CatFish107Ай бұрын
@Teian-world oh, so one should not use the ubiquitous thumbscrews used for eurorack?
@mac.rodoseАй бұрын
@@enginerdyyep been doing that for 10+ years
@Teian-worldАй бұрын
@@CatFish107 No, that's not the case. It is still safe to use metal screws as long as they are used properly, as the M3 screw holes are not very large, so the risk of stripping the threads is minimal. Just make sure to use them correctly.

There's some great sounds in there! As I understand the Gain Mod CV input only adds additional pre-filter gain. To get the sound completely silent with an envelope you can use an external VCA, or potentially route via the on-board Ring Mod VCAs. There are a few other variable width filters in Eurorack (XAOC Belgrad and Bastl Ikarie's Beyond output for example) but it's nice to see it integrated into a single voice like this.

You just made me realize that I really love variable width bandpass filters and I have both of those 😊
