I have no way to say for a fact that Brushy Bill is or is not Billy the Kid. BIlly was born William Henry Roberts. His father was killed in the Civil War, and then his mother died when he was three. He was then adopted by Catherine Bonney. That's why he was called Billy Bonney. It's interesting that Brushy BIll's name was also William Henry Roberts. The two deputies that were with Pat Garrett said years later that Pat did not shoot Billy. They said he shot a man who looked nothing like Billy. They said the man shot by Pat had black hair, a mustache, and was possibly Hispanic. They said it wasn't the first time Pat shot a man in the dark. That was how he also shot Dave.

DNA don’t lie though. Your 1990 facial recognition doesn’t hold water to today’s facial recognition. Bill could have read Pat Garrett’s book and learned details about Pete Maxwells house and other details.

From everything I have read when researching Brushy Bill Roberts knew too many details about different circumstances as well as the original setup of the jailhouse he was kept in that no one else was even aware of. The facial recognition also seems very accurate. He lived an interesting life. I have the "Pat Garrett" book about Billy the Kid and from what I have read it seems obvious the book embellishes a lot and is a total fabrication. Pat Garrett's behavior also seems to indicate he knew he had not actually killed Billy the Kid. Billy had a Hispanic friend close to his own age who could pass as a Hispanic version of Billy. In fact one newspaper report from the Pat Garrett shooting of "Billy" said the body looked like Billy was disguised as a Mexican when the body was looked at by those present. They even said he had darkened his skin from the looks of it. Funny how Billy's Hispanic friend fits the description. I believe Pat Garrett lied to cover up his mistake and was too prideful to admit it, so to save face he just claimed Billy's Hispanic friend that Pat Shot was Billy and is why they did not take any pictures of the body after the killing. Brushy Bill Roberts had knowledge about Billy that only Billy could have had from first hand experience. Billy the Kid was done dirty by the New Mexico governor back in the late 1800's when the governor did not fulfill his word of giving Billy a pardon. They wanted to make an example of him plain and simple. That is why he tried again as an old man to get the then current New Mexico governor to give him his pardon he was promised, but instead they used it as a way to humiliate an old man. They did him wrong both times about his pardon. I am convinced Brushy Bill Roberts was Billy the Kid and not a fake.

None of what you are saying is true. Brushy Bill was discredited and the guys who did the photo review said that they never at any point said it was Bill the Kid. Also, read the book about the death of Billy the Kid. You are taking the comment of "you killed the wrong man" out of context. You also are not speaking of the jury of residents who confirmed it was Billy. Maxwell also maintained it was Billy. This is VERY poorly researched. Do better!

It doesn't require much research to shoot down (pardon the pun) the Brushy Bill nonsense. Serious researchers and scholars have put the matter to rest. There has been so much misinformation circulating about Roberts and his absurd claim to be the Kid, thanks to the film Young Guns 2, and videos such as this one. For example, the 93% DNA result mentioned in the video has somehow been mistaken with the 93% chance of Roberts and Billy the Kid's faces matching in a wildly inaccurate and biased facial recognition procedure---one of several undertaken in the last few decades. Too many gullible people continue to fall for incoherent ramblings that Roberts, coached by Morrison, uttered into a tape recorder---the latter editing (correcting) the "recollections" before committing them to written form. And wouldn't you know it, Morrison refused to make the recordings public. Go figure. As I said earlier, finding out the real story of Billy the Kid isn't a laborious chore: do a little searching. There are plenty of books on the famous outlaw's life and a few by authors who painstakingly researched the Brushy Bill hoax, publishing their factual and well-documented results.
