I'm a lefty who plays righty. I started playing guitar as a teenager in the 80s. There weren't any left handed guitars in my neck of the woods so your only choice is to play a right handed guitar. Which is fine for strumming chords but if you want to progress to guitar solos, quick riffs etc, that's where it gets hard. I found, I had to really work on my pick hand dexterity, strength and stamina. My 2 handed synch, fretting etc would then improve. Pick hand leads the fret hand, it's never the other way round. If you're a lefty beginner, you've got a lot of options today. Get yourself a lefty guitar, you'll progress further faster.

Everyone's different. I've had several students who were left handed but played a right-handed guitar.
@richardpalmer847811 күн бұрын
@@JamieAndersonMusic, yes everyone's different but physiology is physiology. About 90% of the world's population is right handed and the rest left handed. Of course, some of the population have a cross dominance preference but exceptions don't trump the general rule. People go on about lefties being ambidextrous or being mixed handed. Yes, I'm one of them. I write, cut with a scissors/knife, use my tooth brush and wash dishes with both hands. I actually spent hours, even years, when I was growing up -- teaching myself to write and drum right handed to improve my pick hand dexterity and 2-handed synchronising. Got pretty good at all four. Ambidextrous, strong mix handed traits? Yes. Does it ever feel natural using my right hand, do I prefer it over my left? Never. It's a right hand world so if you're a lefty you have to adapt. That's why many lefties, like me, are "ambidextrous".

This 66-yr-old Old Fart just stumbled across this after learning the ukulele and then the guitar 4+ years ago. Many great tips! Yes, attitude is everything! I believe you can do anything you want, if you set your mind to it. Your only limitations are the ones you place on yourself. Wish I would have watched this video before because I was one who started one course, skipped to another and then another. Sticking to one is great advice! BTW - I have osteoarthritis, especially in my fingers and hands. I was experiencing severe hand pain a couple of years ago - overdid it trying to learn barre chords - and was under the care of a hand specialsit who sent me to an occupational therapist. Both the doctor and the OT were amazed at my manual dexterity and attibuted it to playing the guitar. While going through therapy, the OT recommended capsule form tumeric. She said there's no scientific evidence that it does anything, but some of her patients swore by it. Now I'm one of them and pain free!

I've been looking at a lot of other tutorials for this song. Some videos are not the same as how John Denver played it... Many are true to how its supposed to be played like yours. BUT your video best explains HOW its done. I was thrilled when i happened upon your video, so i decided to subscribe to your channel and to my surprise, somewhere in my past i already did subscribe. Thank you for this, ill ne able to learn this great song now
