I'm curious as to when this was created. I had thought this was made in 2022, but when I saw George (Sulu) I thought he was way too young looking for 2022. Then someone told me this was made way back in 1987. Now, that truly blew my mind because I had NO idea they were making fan-made Star Trek movies back then. KZbin didn't exist back then.

We also saw a Captain and First Officer beam down together in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Of course, that didn't end well.

1) Good opening, beginning "in the middle of things" with an event that gets the audience's attention quickly. 2) Good ending, with a scene that explains the episode's title, and demonstrates the compassion that I love so much in classic Star Trek. Live long and prosper.

Delightful! I hope you do another! Thrilled to see George Takei portray Sulu again (I really wish they'd done the Captain Sulu series). Was the Xon on the bridge meant to be the same Xon who dies in a transporter accident in the first movie?

Commander Sonak was the name of the Vulcan who died in the first movie. Xon was originally a character for the proposed 'Star Trek: Phase II' series, as Leonard Nimoy was not going to appear in the new show. When the decision was made to scrap Phase II and make 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' instead, the character of Xon was scrapped after Nimoy agreed to star as Spock in the film. We decided to include the character of Xon in Yorktown as a fun nod to 'Phase II'.

Is it just me, or do George Takei's final words really echo what he said to Boimler in Lower Decks? I really love how grounded Sulu is as a character, and how much he can be a refuge to characters who need healing.

What a great production! Loved the story and the special effects. How cool was it to see First Officer Sulu. I also loved seeing the Klingon battle ship in action. Hard to believe that I get to enjoy a show in 2023 that I first experienced in the 60’s! Amazing! Congratulations cast and crew. Please keep the voyages going!

George Takei is looking pretty spry for an old guy. Way to go George. Knew the visuals would be good with Sam Cockings and Andrew Probert on the job.

Honestly wish the year these fan creations were released was on the titles. But across the board for all fan creations sci fi and other. I watch some and try to place the year and can't sometimes. It looks great either way! I love fan created TOS and TAS shows. Wish the Paramounties would get a clue!

This is really nice! I like the grittiness of this and the idea of Starfleet battling terrorists. It feels like it would fit neatly in with the film era. What is the piece of music playing in the background at 9:09? There is a song by Pepe Deluxe called "Little Miss Cypher" that has the same melody as around 9:34 and I always wondered what it was referencing.

At that time Mister Zulu was still stationed on the Enterprise. Unless that movie is set after the Enterprise's 5-year mission, but is before the events of Star Trek The Movie.

This short film takes place after the 5 year mission, and about 2 years before The Motion Picture. Sulu is on temporary assignment on the Yorktown, during the ship's refit, acting as the First Officer. It isn't a permanent assignment for Sulu.

@@StarshipYorktown I understand now, having read the TOS novel Lost Years series. I bought inexpensive all Star Trek novels published in my home country, Germany. For 230 novels in paper form, I paid €230, which is €1 per book.

The footage of Sulu was filmed in the mid-1980s.

Thank you all so much for all the hard work you and your staff for all the extra efforts done in saving and restoring this fine STAR TREK episode… It is by far one of the finest so called fan made ….As good as any of Paramount made origanal TOS episodes …. You all should be very proud of. This .. I am sure that once the Star Trek fans see this they will all enjoy it as much as I have……THANK YOU SO MUCH….

"Yorktown" was grandfathered from that guideline because the Sulu scenes were filmed in the 1980s.

The stuff with George was shot in the 80s, and some of his ADR was recorded in the 90s.

Never seen this fan film.. a couple famous actors.. and imagine my surprise when I see a younger Steve Goodpaster.. grew up with him.. since second grade.. I wonder why they re-dubbed his voice? 😅
