I love these. I got 2 sets of the As and Bs. These are great for us C&O guys since as you said these can be used as freight or passenger engines.
@caseyjones19505 ай бұрын
At first they were ordered for branch-line passenger service, but later on were mingled with freight F7's & other freight engines on all kinds of freight trains. Don't forget, the C&O had a fleet of E8A's for passenger service on mainlines painted the same way.
@admiralseabass89935 ай бұрын
Nice. I managed to grab C&O 2744 (which was also in the third release of these from LifeLike) but haven't seen 2759 in the wild. I did manage to grab 2746 a few weeks ago, which was released after Walthers bought LifeLike out.

One flaw that LL made on all their 2-8-4's, is the left running board---It should raise up before the pipe from the cylinders, Not after it! Plus the sanding lines are wrong on several of there engines, but they're still very appealing looking engines.
@admiralseabass89935 ай бұрын
@@caseyjones1950 they are really nice. I have avoided the first and second release from LifeLike because I heard they had some engine issues.

Reason it looks very clean is because this is a new GP40-3 rebuild. These new ones have kept their original cab design

I have the 3rd release, 2744. It runs really well, BUT, I don't think it can handle more than 25 cars on level track. Which is a bit of a disappointment given these were mainline power for C&O and could handle all manner of unit coal trains and freights.

Understand, my grades are steep =2 % and no room to really add any weight! There are also some other phyiscal "boo-boos" that LL made on these engines! One in particular on all there 2-8-4s is the left running board, it should raise up before the pipe from the cylinders, Not after it!

Wasn’t sure if you knew or not, but there is a model train show at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi this weekend. I’m taking my son to see what we can see. Maybe at the same time, I can buy more stuff for our layout in the basement. Should be a good show, we shall see. Have a good one!

Thank you very much! It took 2-1/2 years to complete in my spare time, while still working, and raising a family. LL Heritage Kanawha's came out right after I finished this engine. But there's a lot of "boo-boo's" made on those engines.

I grew up in Plymouth and my dad got me heavily interested in trains of all kinds and I loved that there are many crossings in Plymouth, that you can guarantee a view of a train daily in the area real easily. I live in Westland now and have a few crossings here and there to visit but nothing beats the hometown and the railroad within. I also grew up on HO scale model trains with my dad as well. And now many years later I get to share the same experience with my son with my own HO scale layout in my basement using inherited HO scale locomotives, rail cars and accessories. I’m glad I got back into it. Good day to you sir!

My Dad & I rode several excursions behind 2101 both years it was operated. Ross Rowland Jr. put on some of the best excursions operated here in Michigan then in years. I have the BLI 614 (in service version), and it runs every bit as good as this engine. Only thing I don't like about the BLI 614, is the headlight. It's an LED , but the prototype had a vertical twin sealed beam Pyle.

I am really starting to like these mid-train camera perspectives over the head-of-train perspectives because of the extra visual effect you get from watching the train in front of the camera bend and twist around the track. It makes the viewer feel more like they are on a train vs. just gliding along the track in mid air. Great video, thanks!

What a gorgeous model! I thought you had completed it recently at first, I'm surprised at how well it has held up. The mention of the booster engine detail has me curious about adding that to my own bachmann kanawha.
@caseyjones1950 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I completed this in early 2000's. The booster engine details are Cal-Scale brass, and I had to modify it to fit the Rivarossi trailing truck. Also, I had to add weight to the front of the truck to counter-balance it, so the detail part didn't lift it's front wheel off the rails!

@caseyjones1950 Жыл бұрын
I used the TCS WOW 21-pin diesel decoder #1527, on the #1624 AS-MB2-NC Motherboard! Always make sure the the motor brushes are isolated from the rails, or track pick-ups, on any locomotive your installing a DCC decoder in (Sound, or Silent running). Otherwise, you'll let the "magic smoke" out of the chips! :-)
