Cool wedding band! I mainly deal with watches, so I hadn't thought much about ornamental turning other than dials. Now thinking it would be nice to get something like this when I get married.

I loved the Model One and came here from that video. In that one though, you resized the jewel holes on your lathe but in this one it looks like the holes are milled to size. If that is the case, what tool did you use and how did you machine them?
@roysdonwatchco3 ай бұрын
You are correct (you have a sharp eye)! I am now using a CNC mill that has 100x better repeatability and precision, so the holes can now be cut using an interpolated bore operation. As you can see on the Keyence CMM (shown in the video), the holes are spot on (within 0.002 mm)! I can also do operations in 3-axes (top, bottom, and side) with only one setup, hence removing errors that result from multiple setups. Great observation and great question!

Awesome work, this is rare to see done by one person, let alone in the USA! I saw "Chronograph performance" at 5:52 - did you mean to say "chronometer performance"? Chronographs are great at timing events accurately, so I can understand the descriptive appeal, but perhaps it's a typo.

I'm curious which adjustable stages you used for this. I'm looking at surplus units since they're generally better made than similar priced new units but would be open to either.

Now, the big question: Will the moonphase be displayed in the typical way (which is horribly wrong, in all ways), or will you make it into a sphere, which is colored half part white/bright moon and one half part dark, which rotates? I know which one i would go for :p There must be room for a 5mm sphere :)

@@roysdonwatchco absolutely doc your channel is one of my favorites, I really hope to see more videos on things like making fixtures and machines and the process you go through to make your amazing watches. I am a hobby watchmaker myself, most servicing but I have slowly moved towards the ultimate goal of making my own pocket watch movement and building a hand make skeleton clock. Thank you so much for letting us see your amazing shop and processes

I am glad you like the videos. I will continue to show the process and document the results on the website. I also provide links to documents, g-code, and examples so that others can learn as well. In fact, if you go to the website, you will find links to the GitHub page with several watchmaker things already available for download, completely free. Enjoy!

I am a pipefitter by trade and a good one . This video made me question whether I am a craftsman or not . This is the most compelling video I have ever seen.
@roysdonwatchco7 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. You are definitely a craftsman (or tradesman). Prior to this video I spent many years learning many skills in watchmaking, e.g., CNC machining, lathe, CAD, CAM, finishing, leather work, etc. This video only captures the 1440 hours it took to make this watch and the other 21 prototypes just like it. And like any craft, you learn to improvise with tools and techniques when certain things are not available (this was the case many times on this project). I firmly believe that anyone can do this very same thing.
