The polycarbonate is about the thickness of a piece of glass. Use the window mounting bracket that came with the air conditioner. The plastic tabs on the vent hose should lock the hose in place when you slide it to the left or right.

The exhaust air does not get hot enough to damage the screen. Enjoy the summer!
@sashineb.21147 ай бұрын
Hello thank you for your helpful video. With the screen being in place, have you had any damage to it from the hot air exhaust? I've read that screens can get damaged due to the hot air. My screen is next-to-impossible to remove, so if I can just put the exhaust over the screen as you've done, I hope it will work without damaging the screen. Many thanks.
@petra7510-i6s8 ай бұрын
You should have went long-wise with the hole because you don't have to open the window that much for the exhaust you went with wise for security reasons also if you're on a first floor install inside bars from the inside in case somebody cooks or tries to break in the bars will stop them home Depot the weight of the holes will bring the head of the exhaust down and pop it out you need support for the hose to lift it up to take off the weight of the polycarbonate because of the vibration it will loosen up you must take the weight off the hose

I tried your method but couldn’ t get polycarbonate so I used a piece of wood paneling. The hose is heavy and the Velcro sticky backing comes apart when it gets too warm. What could I do to hold the hose up so it’s not so heavy?
@fixerlady8274 Жыл бұрын
Some people have used plexiglass when they couldn’t find polycarbonate. I wouldn’t recommend paneling for any aspect of my solution.

Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install.This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

No, you don’t cut a hole in the screen. The air from the vent hose blows THROUGH the screen.

No. The polycarbonate piece is placed OVER the screen, so the hot air exhausts through the screen. No bugs!

That's brilliant. Would have been cool to kind of hear possible prices for for the carbonate window screen.
@fixerlady8274 Жыл бұрын
The polycarbonate is not a window screen. It is a clear piece of rigid “plastic” that fits over the window screen. The price will vary by the size of your screen, so I can’t give you an estimated price. Call your local glass company and give them your screen dimensions. They can tell you the price.

Greetings from the UK where the weather rarely gets uncomfortable, however last year was damn awful during parts of the summer (40°c plus😩). Just invested in a portable air con and couldn't think how to create a sealed area around the casement window until I happened across this. This is a brilliant idea, thanks so much 👍😊

Brilliant. Truly. I just picked up my polycarbonate sheet today. The plastic piece is installed so tight it's incredible. Your idea turned out so perfectly. I didn't have to use the velcro because my polycarbonate sheet is exactly the same size as my screen so my screen clips are holding it nice and tight. I am so grateful for your clever idea!! thanks!

Awesome! How did you attach the hose to the poly?
@fixerlady8274 Жыл бұрын
The hose fitting that lines up with the matching hole in the polycarbonate has notches. Push the fitting into the hole and move it to the left or right to lock it in place.
@rob41972 жыл бұрын
The velcro also allows the plastic sheet to flex when it gets hot. Is the adhesive heat resistant?
@fixerlady82742 жыл бұрын
The Velcro I used has been on for 2 years, and has held very well. The adhesive is impressive.

@@fixerlady8274 - is the window facing north? How hot does it get there?

@@rob4197 we have this system in 3 windows, with 2 facing west and one facing north. We live in NE Minnesota, and temperatures rarely reach 100.

Walmart here fixed the problem by not selling/giving the plastic bags. You can get a garbage can designed to use those plastic bags ( use paper flyers to line the plastic bag).

@fixerlady82742 жыл бұрын
Cost depends on the size of the window. Polycarbonate is more expensive than plexiglass, but it’s stronger. I think we paid around $70 for our window.

Well, I'm so glad I found this video. I followed instructions to a T with one exception. Instead of cutting a hole for the hose, we used the slider with a hole that came with the air conditioner on the bottom. Therefore we just had to cut a rectangular piece of acrylic for the top part. Used gorilla tape to secure the space between the two. Used the velcro as directed and it worked like a charm! Our window is in a place where no one sees it so not as worried about aesthetics. Great video!
