honestly, jon jones' biggest weakness currently is his age. It might be affecting him a lot or not so much, we will have to see but truth is he is not getting any younger, and no one remains unbeatable forever.

also, ilia's wrestling will need to be tested in higher weight class as well. Connor was 1shotting people left and right in featherweight, but when he got in a higher weight class he has lacking knockout power, and it's normal. Power in general is relative to the weight class. Being able to wrestle against a higher weight class beast like makhachev would probably be a different kind of struggle. Also knocking out some of the guys at LW could prove to be hard.

He’s not a world class kickboxer or anything but you can’t really call something a “weakness” if nobody ever successfully exploited it. Some of the best lightweight strikers EVER went in to fight Khabib, knowing they had far better striking, and still lost in dominant fashion

Don't forget Mackhachev got KOed by nobody Andriano Martins. Islan doesn't want to take boxing or Kickboxing match with any real standup fighter. Islams knows how to wrestle and is big for weighclass, thats it. His power level and high and reach is not enough for his natural weighclass 185lbs, 220kg deadlift. There he will be KOed in top 15 every time.

Islam got caught perfectly, it was the closest thing to a fluke that can happen in this sport and he has clearly fixed that hole in his game anyway. You can’t say he can’t strike, he just beat Dustin Poirier (arguably the best striker ever at 155) and outstruck him in that fight. And his “natural” weight class is 170, where he would still do very well and possibly even be the champion

@@coomingnotgoing904 he did not outstrike him due to standup/striking skill alone but more due to a mixture of factors. He didn't trade with poirier on the feet throwing combinations etc., as others do. With Islam you are always afraid he might shoot for a takedown (and he does that surprisingly well), which doesn't let you keep throwing, these exchanges were small skirmishes of 1-2 punches. That being said, Islam is one of the most impressive and complete champions we have seen so far, and his striking skills are very high tier.

@@magictheo624 See I knew someone who doesn’t really know fighting would try to come in with that argument. The takedown threat makes the other fighter more hesitant to engage, not less capable of avoiding or countering your strikes. Poirier is most dangerous as a counter striker, especially with his lead hook, which is ironically the punch that Martins ko’d Islam with. Even with that, Islam managed to mostly get the better of the striking even when he wasn’t feinting takedowns or using takedown attempts to set up strikes. And he absolutely did trade combinations with Poirier on multiple occasions. If all you want is a display of pure striking skill, you shouldn’t be watching MMA because no matter who’s fighting, there is always a takedown threat and other factors limiting the striking exchanges that simply don’t exist in boxing, kickboxing, or muay thai.

@@coomingnotgoing904 brother, first of all stop drawing stupid conclusions out of 3 sentences in a youtube comment. I used to fight, do not anymore. I've been in combat sports for like the 15 last years or so, competing and then spectating. Read my comment carefully. If you watch the fight, and most of Islams fights, the same head feints/ducks or stepping he uses to lead with strikes he also uses for shooting takedowns. I never said that Islam's striking is not impressive as a single skill. Of course he is skilled and a good striker. However, his skills are complemented by the constant threat of takedowns, shooting single legs after a small exchange etc etc. He has done that too many times already, everybody gets in prepared having studied his videos, and he brings in something new everytime as well. How did you conclude I want to see a display of striking skill out of my whole comment????? get serious

Jones - a fighter who has great takedown defense and almost same size as Jones(Reyes, Gus, Santos etc. Even Stipe put pressure on him on the feet) Pereira - Some Grappler. I don't think LHW has decent grapplers tho(even Ankalaev). DDP - He hasn't tested his bottom ground game since Brunson fight. He fought strikers back to back so i wanna see how he deal with a guy like Khamzat. Belal - A striker who has great takedown defense and ground game. I don't say he doesn't have striking tho. Shavkat's last performance was pretty poor but still i think he will give Belal a hardest fight. Islam - I don't see any weakness on him. Depends on his condition. Topuria - A tall striker who has great kicking. I saw he gets dropped by left head kick against Jai Herbert and Goncalves. Max is a tall striker but he didn't throw any head kicks against him. Merab - A fighter like Umar(young, well rounded, great cardio). Pantoja - A counter striker who has decent ground game. But after i saw him vs Asakura, he looks unstoppable rn.

In my opinion, jon jones' greatest weakness is a fighter that is his size with great takedown defense and lots of forward pressure. We saw dc try this, but he kept getting countered with elbows while trying to get close if he was like dominick Reyes hight the fight might have gone differently. Ddp weakness is a fighter with great takedown defense while being a even greater counter striker.

DDP has bad takedown defence, people never shoot on him so most people don’t pay attention to it. But every time someone shoots a takedown on him they get it, Whittaker, and Brunson took him down easily but they don’t have good control or submissions. Someone like kamzat can beat him with good wrestling.
